A happy Tuesday to you all,

Thank goodness for our Empress of All Things Blog Guelph, Sue Richards, who yesterday filled us with extremely useful tidbits of information and local newsy items. Thank goodness because today we veer off that course for a bit of a non-informational, visual treat only.

I'm sure you, like me, have been spotting the return of the insect world lately. They've crept out of their cocoons, eggs, underground hidey-holes and what-have-you to heed the call of the bursting forth garden blooms and ever so juicy bare human arms.

Welcome to all things BUG.

I sincerely hope these images don't creep or freak you out in any way but c'mon, you do have to admire the magnificent quality of each find...

(Ok, well Stingrays blue dragonflies here are of the plastic variety but I swear, all else is real.) All you have to do is click on each pic for proof.

For obvious reasons.

Grand Sister Funk, Sue Richards and I had a conversation recently about the massive wealth of Guelph Flickr Talent and how best to honour, feature and toot a horn or two.

So here you have it: Made in Guelph will showcase one talented photog from one of our Guelph Flickr pools weekly.

I have no crisp green links or special invitations for you today. The zest that coursed through my veins during March's beginning has been snuffed out by winter's stubborn refusal the accept its coming end. I want to fly away. Or glue myself to the couch.

"Guelph - The University of Guelph will launch its web-based "Zerofootprint" calculator Friday February 15, at 11 a.m. on the main floor of the Library. The cutting-edge tool will allow people to measure their ecological footprint and reduce their collective impact on the environment."

Ed says, "Additionally we know that Monday through Saturday "at-risk-youth" are welcomed to suppers at Norfolk United Church in a continuation of programming related to what used to be the Change Now population."

Location: 75 Norfolk Street (at Cork Street)

Ed says, "And that on Sunday outdoor suppers are provided by the GUTS organization at the corner of Wyndham and Macdonnel streets."

Ed says, "And we know that suppers will continue to be served at the former Chalmers Church on Quebec St. -- we hope to get more information on this from people using that service of the new church."

No need to be scared people, spring WILL eventually return.

Tomorrow is Election Day.

Of course the choice is yours and yours alone and while it's not my place to influence your decision, I strenuously recommend you do vote.
Because you can.
Here's a couple of reasons I implore you to get to the polls:

:: It took until 1916 for women in Manitoba to win voting rights and finally within nine years the rest of the provinces followed suit, ending with Quebec in 1940.
That's mindblowingly recent history in my books.
:: There are millions of people in the world who do not have opportunity to vote.
You do.
Enough said.

Now I also believe the voting age in Canada should be dropped to 16.
But that's just me....

So don't just let those cards fall wherever they may. Speak out!

Read more, find your polling station, place your X on your ballot.
Run, run to the polls....

10 years ago today, the dream of many finally came to fruition. A performing arts centre in an oh so artsy town, nestled on the banks of the mighty Speed River.
Since that time, thousands of concerts, dances, conferences, plays and all out celebrations have taken place here.
It's the kind of place that you have to enter to realize it's majesty and full potential.

The River Run Centre is dressing itself up and laying out a variety of events for it's birthday party, so why not head there this beautiful long weekend to partake?
Here are the host of activities planned for the 10th:
The Party tonight - a very elegant soiree
The Concert friday night - Jim Cuddy may be sold out...
and a FREE Community Open House on Saturday which will offer attendees the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of such a grand facility. Lighting, soundchecks, even performances by 20 community arts organizations.

If this is a place you've rarely visited, take this opportunity to see what lies within those massive walls. If you think you know it well, look again. Just imagine the potential for the next 10, 20, 50 years....
