Blog Guelph: Building Guelph's Future
Do you ever wonder about the future of our fine city?
Do you ever worry?
If you've raised your hand for either question, I'm pleased to tell you that the City of Guelph is hosting an Open House at the River Run Centre, 35 Woolwich Street, 7 - 9 pm, on September 19th where they will be asking Guelph residents how Guelph should be built in 2031.
This is a free event that anyone can attend. So put on your thinking caps boys and girls - get your idea motors running.
Today's series of photograph's feature downtown Guelph today. Your job is to try and imagine each image in 25 years. What would you like to see?

Blog Guelph: Ackers at 80
Ackers Furniture has been selling appliances and household gear in Guelph since 1917 - a full 80 years by my calculations. Their official address is 42 Carden Street, but you can also enter the store from MacDonell Street.
I would conclude that any downtown Guelph business with this stretch of longevity has got some wisdom to share. Is anyone from city hall asking them to share?

Blog Guelph - 4 more sleeps
I had initially thought it was shameless to promote my own event as Guest Blogger until I realized two things:
I would have hustled Sue Richards to do the same and,
it is not about me but....
the 100 mixed-media artists that will line Wyndham & Quebec Streets.
Accompanied by Zero Gravity Circus, Sonic Playground, yummy food, Guelph Environmental Leadership's massive chalk art undertaking, even live music all afternoon with Burrows, Ambre McLean, Ancient Chinese Secret (Brian Connelly from Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Atomic 7), and the Strawberry Apostles.
Witness many Acts of Art this Saturday, 11 am- 5pm.
The following 7 posts are some of my personal faves from a few members of our Guelph Flickr pool who just so happen to be 3 of the artists exhibiting and selling their works of art that day. Fix.inpost is none other than Graham Taylor, Raven Girl is the lovely Julia Busato, and we end things off today with a beautiful example of Mary Calarco's work.
Come out and support them on Saturday. Have yourself some fun.
I have been conspiring with mother nature and she assures me it will be a beautiful day...

Blog Guelph: It's A Sign - or Eight
Today I'm offering up six pix's for your viewing pleasure - including some Guelph arty news and a recipe.
If you cruise through the pedestrian walkway beside the former Guelph post office and turn right, you'll come across the colourful backside of the Family Thrift Store. In fact most of the Wyndham Street strip of stores have back entrances to their retail spaces that make for easy access from the Baker Street Parking lot.
On a more personal note, I'm in need of a bloggy break. Given the proximity to the long weekend I've decided to take the rest of the week off.
