Blog Guelph: Spring Colours
It's "not so bad Thursday" today.
One day before the much appreciated statutory holiday, Good Friday - where we witness a mess of chocolate, some wicked fresh colour and the undeniable spirit of spring forcing it's way up and out.
Yes people, it's here!
Spring has (kinda) sprung today.
For proof of this, dig under the piles of snow and you may just spy a tendril or two peeking out from the earth.
Now hush all you naysayers, scroll down and have a look at the indomitable shoots discovered in a particularly warm and sheltered hidey hole in Downtown Guelph just yesterday.

Blog Guelph: art in guelph
It appears to be Art Week on Blog Guelph with today's post taking a look at the old/new notion of a Guelph Community Arts Centre.
An organization, indeed a space, for multidisciplinary arts has been a dream of many for a long long time in the town that is literally busting at the seams with talent.
Now I realize there is no sense lamenting this dead ol' dog but wouldn't the Old Post Office have been a superb location for such a dream? Sigh.
Nevermind, the subject has reared it's gorgeous head again with a meeting set to discuss every and all possibilities.

Blog Guelph: Guelph Flickr Show Opening Night
After my blogging marathon of 24 posts yesterday - all dedicated to Guelph's Hillside Festival - I am offering up only three pics today.
If you've enjoyed the photos on this blog over the last year then do hustle your butt to the Red Brick Cafe this evening ~ 8 - 10pm ~ Douglas Street, just off St. George's Square in downtown Guelph, for the first Downtown Guelph Flickr Guelph Pool Photo Contest. Not the most succinct or sexy of names, but really do not let that deter you. As shown by the above pic, the show has been hung with care, folks are excited and we want you there.
Don't fret if you're washing your hair this eve, it being Wednesday and all - the show goes on all month long. Further and because I know you are out there, I'll be posting the famed photos over the next few weeks for those of you tuning in from abroad, down under or way over there.

St. James The Apostle Church on Glasgow Street painted their door red sometime in the last week. When this church opened in 1892, it was the last in a series of centrally located, major churches to be built with locally quarried limestone.

Blog Guelph: Environmentalists
And finally, allow me to draw attention to the most special interest group ever to take root in out fair city - the environmentalist.
I cannot imagine why you would not want to claim membership in this club. Do you breath? Have children? Drink water? Are you interested in having good air quality, a future for your children, clean water? Of course you do. That my friend, makes you an environmentalist.
The city of Guelph is our habitat. It's up to all of us to take a 'special interest' in keeping Guelph healthy.

Blog Guelph: Fall Equinox
The fall equinox arrived in town draped in humidity at 4:03 am on Saturday.
So far, the weather for our newest season has been wildly varied. Yesterday I required the use of my umbrella, sunglasses, down vest and capri pants.

Blog Guelph: Petrie Building
I've often thought that at the very least, some talented artist could be commissioned to paint the wooden window coverings of this stunning albeit grossly uncared for building in downtown Guelph.
According to Guelph historian, Gil Stelter, "The Petrie Pharmacy, completed for A.B. Petrie in 1882 clearly proclaims its function with a giant druggist's mortar and pestle as its cornice. The striking facade of stamped, galvanized iron was manufactured in Ohio. John Day designed this building."
