The 2nd Annual Community Solstice Carol Singing in St. George's Square is happening at 7 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 20th in delightful Downtown Guelph.
Carol sheets will be provided as will a conductor - local songwriter James Gordon.
A collection will be taken during the event for Sister Christine and her ongoing efforts to help the homeless.
All ~ including the singing shy ~ are welcome!
The Guelph Community Solstice Carol Sing began two years ago at St. Joseph's Hospital as many Guelphites gathered there to lend vocal support to Guelph Tree God Henry Kock, who passed away at Christmas in 2005.

Blog Guelph - 4 more sleeps
I had initially thought it was shameless to promote my own event as Guest Blogger until I realized two things:
I would have hustled Sue Richards to do the same and,
it is not about me but....
the 100 mixed-media artists that will line Wyndham & Quebec Streets.
Accompanied by Zero Gravity Circus, Sonic Playground, yummy food, Guelph Environmental Leadership's massive chalk art undertaking, even live music all afternoon with Burrows, Ambre McLean, Ancient Chinese Secret (Brian Connelly from Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Atomic 7), and the Strawberry Apostles.
Witness many Acts of Art this Saturday, 11 am- 5pm.
The following 7 posts are some of my personal faves from a few members of our Guelph Flickr pool who just so happen to be 3 of the artists exhibiting and selling their works of art that day. Fix.inpost is none other than Graham Taylor, Raven Girl is the lovely Julia Busato, and we end things off today with a beautiful example of Mary Calarco's work.
Come out and support them on Saturday. Have yourself some fun.
I have been conspiring with mother nature and she assures me it will be a beautiful day...

Blog Guelph: Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival
You will not want to miss this weekends exciting Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival . Even if you've never attended a dance event in your life, so I highly encourage you to click through to their website and book yourself a date. The unpredictable, the challenging, the beautiful: “Pushing Boundaries” is the The Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival’s slogan this year, and it’s one that “runs both ways,” as Catrina von Radecki, one of the artistic directors, insists. “We showcase contemporary dancers who are pushing their own boundaries of aesthetic and physical performance. But, our audience is always saying how surprised they have been to have their own boundaries tweaked, how they have been startled by the ideas and cultures they’re exposed to, and startled by how dance short-circuits their brains, going straight to their hearts before they’ve even begun to grasp what they’re seeing.”
Tickets start at Pay-What-You-Can to $25.00 dollars! Children are extremely welcome. Your soul will expand.

I doubt if I have to explain today's series of posts - what with out BIG OPENING last evening at the Red Brick Cafe.
We had a packed room full of excited camera buffs and Flickr folk - plus the walls were full of terrific photos. I hope this is the beginning of more cool events.
Downtown Lynn who actually works for the Guelph Downtown Board of Management was there to dish out the $100.00 PRIZE to the ultra creative THE GIANT VERMIN - pictured above, in yet another self portrait - standing beside one of his images.

Blog Guelph: Breast of Canada Launch and Avant Breast Auction Gals
The sixth annual Breast of Canada calendar launch, held on Friday night at the Youth Music Centre was a stunning success. Auction coordinator Jen Turnbull (left) acquired a fine range of breast related art while the lovely and wonderfully talented Stacey Hare (right) from Roger's First Local did an outstanding job as auctioneer. A total of $1980.00 was raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer network.
All and all, the breast calendars were launched rather nicely. Thanks goes out to every single person in attendance in body and spirit,

Blog Guelph: Greased Pole
One of the premier events at Guelph's Italian Canadian Festival is the Greased Pole Climb. Photoblogger Randy Sutherland catches the female team in action here. The goal of the competition is to grab one of the red flags hanging off the salami... so much could be said about the salami but I will restrain myself and remain poised.
The challenge comes when the four-team members stack themselves on top of each other but still fall short of the top. The pole is thickly coated in axle grease. Think slippery, filthy and smelly. Reaching the prize is brutally hard. Not recommended for the weak limbed.
Check out the grand'FOGGER blog for a close-up of the men’s team.
