Blog Guelph: Beauty
Merry Monday friends. Thanks for dropping by on this breezy, sun streaked day of summer in Guelph, Ontario Canada..
This entire weeks posts are dedicated to beauty, beauty and even more beauty.
Russian author Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky once said that "beauty will save the world". Alan Clement, author of Instinct for Freedom suggests that "people, art, a poem, a smile, a photograph - anything that provokes or stimulates us to inhabit a new aspect of reality is beautiful". Dictionary dude Webster offers, "beauty is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit".
I say beauty is a beautiful thing.
Look closely at your world today. Seek the beauty in all that you encounter. Then find the space to add beauty in generous quantities.
Best viewed with a brave, open heart.

Blog Guelph: Check Mate
Fabulous Friday mates.
It's sunny, half way through February and the eve of our first winter long weekend thanks to Family Day. A light at the end of the snow filled tunnel? Perhaps.
I'm breaking from tradition today with three pics - definite gems - all with a certain snow vibe. Might just as well show the stuff off as complain about it I figure. I say this now of course. My moods do swing in winter.
And - lovely Downtown Lynn is in a big flurry of activity for the next while so her Tuesday/Thursday presence may be hit and miss. I'll do my best to fill her talented boots and keep you amused with photo picks from the Guelph Flickr pool.
To enhance your viewing pleasure may I recommend you dive into a big thermos of spiked hot chocolate.

Blog Guelph: First Snow Storm
Finally.
The bone chilling rains and dampness of November have given way to our first light but dramatic covering of snow in good old Guelph town. Yesterday's chaotic multi-faced weather front came at us from all directions and I quite expected to be buried in 'the white stuff' this morning. Instead we got dusted.
If there were such a thing as Actra Awards for months, November would definitely be honored with Best Drama Queen for her performance in The Eleventh Month.
For those of you coming to us from countries where snow is just a word, I hope you enjoy today's seven post series. To enhance the experience, try sticking ice cubes in your underwear before viewing.

Blog Guelph: November Syndrome
Besides being the 'moody swing month' between sunny October and Xmonth, November seems to suck the colour out of everything. Fog, sleet, wind, rain, snow, frost and thunder make the rounds - sometimes within a twenty-four hour period. Too early in the calendar year to fully hibernate - we are left to remember war and dead loved ones.
Ugh!
But then - just as I head to the fridge to drown my sorrows in sugar, the sun breaks out, temperature rises and a hint of August caresses my face.
Thankfully 30 days has November.

Blog Guelph: What Is Stephen Harper Reading?
Fed up with the federal governments lack of understanding of the arts - Yann has set himself the task of encouraging our dear Prime Minister to be still and read.
Every two weeks, Yann will mail Stephen a new book - with a letter of introduction and invite our PM to be still and read it. All is being recorded on the very simple website What Is Stephen Harper Reading?
Read the background story that appeared in Saturday's Globe and Mail here.
Now that our next federal candidates have been chosen - perhaps a similar campaign would be worthwhile in Guelph. After all - have you ever lived anywhere with more artists per square foot?

Blog Guelph: Greater Guelph: Ideafest
From the press release I received I learned that Greater Guelph will take myriad forms. For instance, the newspaper will stage the Greater Guelph Ideafest – an open community brainstorming session and panel discussion event for generating notions for enhancing the Royal City. This event is set for May 5.
I asked Phil to give me some sexy, fun, smart reasons for attending the Greater Guelph Ideafest.
Phil Andrews: "You'll leave it going: "Hmmm, I'm happy I went to that. I want to see what happens next." That's if you just come and passively take in the comments, the kids' art work exhibit on their vision for Guelph's future and the tie I'll be wearing. If you dive in, it will be an even better experience."
