Blog Guelph: Entrancing
Today's series offer some examples of the Guelphites winter hardiness be they human or beast.
You may scoff at this image. But trust me, managing a fire is work - plus an immense amount of pleasure.

Here we see evidence of what I consider insanity. Yes, some Guelph people continue to ride their bikes no matter what is falling from the sky and piling up on the ground.

Today's series provides Blog Guelph viewers with icy images from around the city. Photographer Denim offers what could be considered a deeply quiet view of winter in Guelph.
'Tis certainly the logical season to be still.

Blog Guelph: On The Edge of Speed
I'm told through a very reliable source, that source being Stanley, founder of the Annual Stanley’s' Cup Canocky Game, that skating on Allan's Mill Pond rink is happening.
In his email Stan claims, " It has been 5 years since it (the ice) was so good. The only cost of admission is assistance with shoveling when the snow does come."
Allan's Mill Pond is the section of the Speed between the Heffernan Pedestrian Bridge and the Macdonnel Street Bridge, sort of in front of the River Run Centre. Likely all this will be very obvious - what with people skating and all.
Dezso beautifully captured these silly walk-on-thin-ice geese fooling around on yet another section of the Mighty Speed River.

Blog Guelph: Ice Feathers
A few years ago, in January, I was traveling with my mate in Zanzibar, one of the Spice Islands off the coast of Tanzania, East Africa. Daily temperatures always exceeded 45C.
After a couple of weeks where nothing was cold, we ventured into the 'fancy hotel' with our sights set on a cocktail - or more specifically, an ice cube in a cocktail. Seemed you could take the Canadian out of winter but couldn't quite get the winter out of a Canadian.

Blog Guelph: Orangeness Day Premise
Orange is the colour of creativity. It's zany. Fun. Cheerful. And orange is able to work wonders with the mood that settles on a grey January day.
In 2004 I simply published the date on the calendar that I produce. People who noticed instantly took to the idea. Just because they could. Celebrating orange is very easy.
So there you have it. Orangeness Day got made up because I like orange. And by the look of it, a whack of you like orange too.
Enjoy.
