Guelph Citizenship Ceremony

Today I wanted to bring you some details of the festivities at Riverside Park for Canada Day, to go with this lovely riverside photo.  Who  knew there would be a Guelph Citizenhip ceremony?!  There's a trivia game at 1:45 - Canadian Trivia - So You Think You Know Canada eh? So, I'm planning to be at the Senior's Tent in the afternoon, recording for CFRU - and would love to see you!

Taste Real, Local Foodfest

Does it feel as though I have been Foraging on flickr for today's photo?
I wanted to mention the fabulous annual event that took place yesterday at Ignatius Jesuit Centre.
Amid music and interesting vendors, there were also workshops, including one about foraging, presented by Luke Erickson.  He invited participants to come enjoy the wonders of nature by foraging and celebrating spring ephemerals. He says foraging is a fantastic window through which to explore the natural world and increase our awareness and respect for its beauty and complexity. Wild foods are very nutritious and often have much higher amounts of minerals and other nutrients than their domesticated counterparts. They can also be used medicinally -- and they're free.

Next year's Guelph Wellington Taste Real, Local Foodfest will be the 10th anniversary!  I'm already planning not to miss it, are you?

It's no secret that cats win the internet. Googling "cat" nets about 478,000,000 results compared to a measly 335,000,000 results for "dog". Who hasn't heard of Grumpy Cat? No doubt a good many of you are also familiar with Maru, and maybe Colonel Meow too.

From short films to 6-second Vine videos, it's a fast-paced compilation of the best cat videos on the web starring well-known internet cats and featuring some local cats.

Blog Guelph: World Elder Abuse Awareness News

Look at all the learning, enlightenment and entertainment available in this photo!

Did you know that yesterday was not just Father's Day, but also World Elder Abuse Awareness Day?  Yet another important topic to be aware of... and perhaps even to take action in regards to.

CFRU had a special broadcast at 3pm, and several important resources for senior's and those caring for them were shared...  as Doug (the usual host of Seems Like Old Times on CFRU) interviewed the President, Judith Carson, of the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association.  I thought I'd take a minute today to share some of them again:

> GWSA Support Services: Phone: (519) 837-5696
email: pgage.gwsa@gmail.com
> The Guelph Police Department has a constable that is involved in watching out for elder abuse.

> The Seniors Safety Line – The hotline is a toll-free, confidential resource for seniors who are worried they are suffering from abuse or pressure from another 1-866-299-1011.

> The CCAC

It was an important show. I like the point that was made during the broadcast that it is wonderful and important to include older people in the events you are attending!  I thought you might want to know...
