The church and the museum, by Kim Lawrence
Between now and Friday, August 22, Guelphites are encouraged to capture and share the city’s personality as part of a fun, community-based art project.
People can submit up to three entries online at guelphonography.ca. Each photo can be entered in one of three categories: Visit Guelph, Downtown Guelph, and Guelphlandia.
Local “phonographers” Kim Lawrence, Marshall Bell, Jen Rafter, Kelly Hughes and Stacey Hare will choose 20 online entries to be exhibited at the Guelph Civic Museum during Culture Days, September 26-28. Then, the whole exhibit moves to Atmosphere café + etc. in downtown Guelph until the end of November. Thanks to contest sponsors Photo Media Décor, artists get to keep their printed pieces. Prizes will be awarded for each category, and a grand prize will be awarded for the best shot in the show. Full contest rules and details are posted at guelphonography.ca.
Not every shot can be a winner, but that shouldn’t stop people from getting out, shooting and sharing what they love about Guelph. Four week-long mini-challenges let Guelphites experiment with new and different apps and photo editing techniques. The shot with the most likes, or favourites for the week wins a wee prize! Be sure to use the hash tag listed
- July 21-27, #Guelphie: a selfie showing you somewhere in Guelph. If you also tag #SGPhoto, your #guelphie will be critiqued by Nick Montgomery of Sharp Goat Photography for this week's SG Photo Challenge!
- July 28-August 3, #GuelphStreetStories: a shot of your ‘hood, or a street scene
- August 4-10, #GuelphGoodEats: a pic of what you eat or where you eat it
- August 11-17, #GuelphAlteredState: a pic of anything that’s been edited or altered in some way on your phone.
