sinking like a sunset   you shall not pass!   no planting yet, nice sunset though   just chill'n - hdr   snowdrift face looks angry!

As an escape from the winter whites that we've faced for so many days now I'm featuring some colourful photos by Joe Swanson. Hopefully we'll soon be enjoying a more spring-like spring.

Blog Guelph: Dark side of the church

I've chosen to share some dark, moody photos of the Church of our Lady with you because I like them. A lot.

Don't they fuel your imagination? Gothic horror comes to mind, doesn't it... Dracula, American Horror Story, Anne Rice novels, stories by Edgar Allan Poe, and perhaps the song Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus

Hmm... I'm going to download a book from the library or watch something dark on Netflix tonight.

See you next Tuesday!

Hi there,
There's no Pure Guelphishness musical feature to tell you about today, but something about this photo and the work of art captured in it seemed right for a quick hello.

Did you celebrate College Royal this weekend? I hope the festive feeling continues today as you enjoy St. Patrick's!

Blog Guelph: Birds are beautiful

A bald eagle in Guelph? Wow! I've seen a few tweets about it recently and found this beautiful shot by Randy Bartholomew, who's seen and photographed him a few times. Hopefully I'll see this incredible bird for myself at some point.

Today I've opted to share a few photos of our feathered friends taken by local photographers.

It's finally melting.......it being snow and ice. The birds are tweeting their return. The days are longer. Spring is so close I can almost taste and touch it. The season of renewal us almost upon us.

Happy Days!

Blog Guelph: catgirl

Isn't this snapshot entrancing? Today on hoofbeats we played several chapters of Flying Changes by Sarah Sheard, and it struck me how dog focused her horse talk radio show readings were. This photo made we wonder if our superhero contributor also has an affinity for cats.  By the way, the Guelph Library has ordered her latest published novel, Krank, so, if you want to, you will be able to check it out soon.

The Pure Guelphishness feature this week was just one tune, by sort-of local Danny Michel, White Lightning, from the Live In Winnipeg Release. Did you know he's performing Mondays in Toronto this month? I'd love to see these lunchboxes at the merch table.

Today's radio show was also a good opportunity to acknowledge the music provided for hoofbeats show intros, outros and segment theme music - from almost locals Bob Wiseman, Andrew Coombes and Gordon Shawcross among others...

I hope you'll search out some of their work. Or, at least listen back to the podcast?
