Blog Guelph: Winter walk on the Silvercreek Trail

How about a brisk walk with the K9 along one of our lovely trails? No matter the weather, the faithful companion is a full season walker and explorer. One is reminded how cold a Guelph wind can feel when standing in a crowd in the middle of a blowy sports field. Humans huddle, while sneaky pups take sport in running and knocking us down. Remember to bend the knees!

Be a kind soul in this snowy season and remember to "Be Nice, Clear your Ice".

Have you heard of the Cornerstone Campfire sessions? Were you there last night? If not, you may want to put it on your New Year's resolution list to join the festivities on the 3rd Sunday of the winter months at 9pm at our beloved Cornerstone.

This New Year's photo is intended to inspire you to do just so! It's such a great representation of what Guelph is all about.

Enjoy ~ Kim Logue-like-Vogue

Blog Guelph: Snow Day

Isn't this a striking image? There wasn't a local music Monday feature on hoofbeats radio this morning, so I wanted to share a powerful picture to mark the "snow day" from the usual theme of the weekly column.

Enjoy!

Blog Guelph: Pope of The Woods

The Pure Guelphishness Playlist on hoofbeats this morning was very, very short - with just one song, for which this post is named, played near the very end of the show. A marvellous tune about caring for the forest, with amazing guitar sounds and a catchy chorus, and lyrical commentary about wasted lives and resources. For me, it was a randomly redemptive song to play, given the horse talk program content with an enthusiastic Huntsman as interview subject.

The exclaim review of the new release describes it well "There’s brute honesty in the plainly delivered rock of Guelph’s Harri Palm, yet his songs contain distinctively rich tones and energy."

You can check out some of Harri's tunes at Reverbnation or myspace, and you can check out a more detailed bio at his cbc site. I will certainly be on the look out for more opportunities to listen to his full cd, and I hope you will be too.  When I wrote him with a few questions about it, he wrote back, "Oh, my album. May 2008. Recorded here at the Boogie Barn except for #'s 4 and 9 which were done at Scott Merritt's studio. They feature Richie Hayward (Little Feat) on drums. Probably one of the last albums he worked on before he died. Some overdubs were done at my home and at my cottage. I produced and mixed. Mastered by Cory Barnes."
I still have to ask him if I should edit it out of the podcast or not.
- Enjoy!
