Blog Guelph: DOC IT! closes summer screening series with breakout film The Manor

DOC IT! Is pleased to close its summer screening series with the breakout film, “The Manor” by Guelphite Shawney Cohen on August 22 at the Bookshelf Cinema.

Not many films get the opening night slot at the Hot Docs International Documentary film festival in Toronto, along with an Honorable Mention Jury Citation at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Repbublic, but Guelphite Shawney Cohen is making waves with his personal family story based in Guelph.

Guelphites may know the local strip club the Manor, but this story is an intimate portrait of a unique family business and it’s making news across the country.

Join in celebrating local filmmaker Shawney Cohen, and the success of his film after 3 years in the making. Don’t miss the pre-screening party at the eBar where Shawney will be speaking about personal documentary storytelling in an intimate discussion with Ed Video.

DOC IT! is a new summer screening series brought to you by Cityside Films, Ed Video and City of Guelph Wellbeing Program.  Erin Faith Young, Academy Award nominated Guelphite for the short documentary ‘Hardwood’, recently moved back to her hometown but didn’t want to leave her filmmaking experience behind. Along with her husband, Editor Andrew Schiller, they have launched DOC IT! which brings notable Canadian theatrical documentaries and their filmmakers to Guelph as a celebration of the art form and a special event dedicated to entertaining and informing the Guelph community.
