Blog Guelph: Hushed Streets
You know it is nearly summer time in Guelph when the streets are really quiet.
On the other hand, this is probably what the streets look like during the middle of a working week.
Great light.
Cheers!

Blog Guelph: Mystery Ma & Pa
Greetings Wonderful People!
Today I present some freshly developed film from the past. There is a shop downtown that I happen to frequent which on occasion has a collection of old, dusty cameras. Sometimes, I am presented with one or two that have an exposed roll of film inside. I love to take them home and develop the film to see what delights they hold. Not every roll is a success, the ravages of time can be cruel and may erase all traces of what was seen through the view finder.
I managed to salvage four shots from a roll of 16. I have to do some tweaking of the other two and stitch together the panoramic they were hoping for. I present "Ma & Pa Jiffy", are they perhaps related to you? The expired film was in a Kodak Jiffy camera and I have no clue as to when they were taken. In the forest scene, a truck may give those auto buffs a clue as to a ballpark year.
How about the trailer? Does anyone remember what year those models came out?
Do let me know if you know who these quaint people are or if you happen to have an old camera with some film left inside.
Enjoy the mystery!

Blog Guelph: Inspired
I've missed the flicker of the Blog Guelph screen the past few weeks, so it's good to be back.
I'd like to let you know about a little project that will hopefully build into a community of heartfelt words laying Write on the Street.
Essentially it's this:
A walking community meets at the intersection of words, memory, and art.
I want to hear your perspective of Guelph as you see it while on foot. To read about the way you see your neighbourhoods, or other spots that move you to write. The ultimate goal of this project is to compile your stories, then take a tiny slice of some of them and literally WRITE THEM ON THE STREET. Everything will ultimately be documented, and then hand-mapped. This aims to be both a multi-generational and multicultural project.
Please send your words to culturemaven[@]me.com.

Get inspired this weekend!

Blog Guelph: What's Next?
Have we seen the last of the snow for this year yet?
Already past five titles, this week's Music Monday feature, Jason Raso has released several albums, including his last, The Red Arrow, a few years back. But this incredible musician, well-established recording artist, composer, producer and revered music teacher has a long list of accomplishments that just keeps growing...
He is is set to release the next recording, Slingshot, in coming days. Have you heard any of the tracks yet? If you missed his appearance on Inside Guelph May 1, there’s plenty of good listening at Reverbnation and lots to watch on his youtube channel.
Jason is scheduled as a guest at CFRU 93.3fm this Sunday morning at 9-10am. As well, he will be performing at the Long & McQuade Grand Opening, Saturday, May 25th (during a Magic 106.1 on- location broadcast), with Adam Bowman on percussion. The full complement of the Jason Raso Quartet is set to perform Friday, July 12th at noon in St. George’s Square, and at this year's Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival! Saturday July 20th, 1:30pm.
And, as if that weren’t enough, you can also check out his “Canadian Musician” blog, "Jay Walking"! And, I encourage you to do so - no matter what the project, or his role in it, you can count on high quality musical entertainment.
- Enjoy!

Blog Guelph: Can't Go Back
I first caught a glimpse of the new band Odd Years, during a photo session they were doing downtown Guelph. One of my favourites on their facebook page is thanks Austin Gibson Photography and Gregory Clifford Denton at Macondo Books! I saw them again shortly after performing live in the station at CFRU, and was inspired to find more of their music to listen to. And now, I get a chance to suggest you do the same....
Enjoy

Here's the thing though, we did ask for just such a day during the dreary darkness of February.
Fear not!
Guelph Dance is charging at us as we write. This is the Festival's 15th Anniversary and oh, how it has grown. It's an energetic affair, full of vim and vigour - a breathtaking array of performances held in a sweet assortment of venues. Accessible, diverse, imaginative and powerful.
Please don't miss the opportunity to take some of it in. From the Park, to Market Square, to studios, and the River Run Centre.
Even if you didn't plan on it, you're bound to be engaged with the dancing and the dancers somewhere this weekend.
Enjoy.
