Blog Guelph: Fresh Ideas

Happy Music Monday!  Today I admit to being engrossed in Ben Grossman.  Does improv mean you really have no idea of what you are doing?  I chose some photos from around Guelph to share while listening to a unique musical entity, from right in our own backyard.

Have you heard yet about Silence?  Ben is one of the powers behind Guelph’s new portal for adventurous new sound events that range from experimental, improvised, noise, ambient, installations, sound art, outside electronica, found objects, computer music, handmade music, post rock, psych, to freak music...

Ben Grossman is perhaps best known for the hurdy gurdy he is so often heard with. A busy musician: improviser, studio musician, composer, and programmer who works in many fields, from presenting shows, hosting radio programs and having played on over 80 CDs, soundtracks for film and television. He does sound design for theatre, installations, work designed for radio transmission, and live performances spanning early medieval music to experimental electronica.

If you are interested in exploring new ways of thinking, while enjoying amazing sounds, you can find out more about what Ben does, if you check out this video, filmed in nearby Waterloo.

And also note a call for participation: handmade music night!  In co-operation with kazoo! festival, silence will be hosting a handmade music night on Thursday, April 4th from 5:30 to 7:30 and would love you be a part of it.  The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend, but if you'd like to show your work, jam a little, or just want some table space to lay out your current project in search of help, please drop a note to [email protected]
