Good 'Stormy' Morning!
The voices on the radio are telling us to prepare for another winter 'storm'. Currently, as I look out of the window, it is indeed snowing. It was a slippery walk to school this morning, so watch out if you need to go out and about today.
There is the possibility of freezing rain later, so as Ben Wicks used to say "Be nice, clear your ice".
Today's visual selection includes images of Guelph when we have had our small doses of 'winter'. Don't let the snow and cold prevent you from exercising the creative part of your brain.
Happy snapping!

Blog Guelph: Marley
Happy Tuesday all - welcome to the tail end of February.
The diversity of today's collection of photos speaks volumes about the vast number and the talent of the creative beings that inhabit our fair village. Here's another indicator of Guelph's artistic abundance.
CBC has just launched a killer music website that currently features 217 Guelph bands and musicians. Even though I'm somewhat plugged into the local scene, I was surprised by the number. It would appear that you can't swing a cat for hitting a tunes-smith in this town - not that I would ever swing a cat!
In total the CBC site showcases 28,761 artists - enough to keep even the most hyper active music lover busy for a couple years.
So then, you've got your daily dose of great pics to appreciate and enough tunes to keep your toes tapping. May all this talent fuel your own creative juicer.

Blog Guelph: Art Is Everywhere
Good Morning and Happy Monday!
Sue and I have changed blogging days, and I am going to be leading the week off every Monday.
Today, I have decided to focus on the art we see everyday. Most of the time we walk by it, ignore it, and even fail to recognise that it has artistic value.
I spent yesterday morning at McLean's Auto Wreckers, and it was really eye opening for me. There was an insane amount of rust and decay, and otherwise completely useless rotten vehicles.
But, as I walked, and explored and let myself see, everything started to have beauty.
The rusted chains, and the peeling paint, and all the broken glass took on a life of its own. It was amazing to see all the art waiting to found at this big old junkyard.
Today, open your eyes. Slow down. Notice the things around you. There is art everywhere just waiting to be found.
See you next week!

Blog Guelph: Sugar-Pie, Honey-Bunch
I should come clean.
I have been, and will undoubtedly always be, a nicknamer.
It’s the highest form of flattery, really.
And only in very rare circumstances have I found myself branding people out of scorn. Dear are, Sunshine, Leppy, LaLa, Sioux-sie Q, Dan the Man, Pepito. I'm also fond of initials for the extra specials.
As you can see, not all of my pet names are shorter forms. Does “nick” really have to suggest something diminutive, I ask?
So did we learn this from our parents, cooing angel-face and honey-pie to us in our cribs?
Having worked for the 450+ businesses downtown the past 7+ years, I’ve found myself referring to John Knar, Sarah Coriander, Ann Budd’s, Shelley Red Brick. I like to believe this is just smart business. Killing two birds as it were.
There’s a Purolator man I’ve worked with and see around town daily for 15 years whom I still refer to as Dude.
He, in response, Dudette.
That small familiarity makes the world seem warmer.
Or at very least defined.
To discover the best nicknames, head over to Market Square rink tonight, where the Roller City Roller Girls are trading in their wheels for steel. Spunky Brewster, Kim Carsmashian, and Bangers n' Smash will be there in the flesh, so I'm told. All this in the spirit of the February version of Fourth Fridays , found downtown tonight 7-10 pm.
And please, don't miss out on the many other fantastic Fourth Friday offerings. More info on the Facebook Page.
Adieu, sweetyfaces.

Blog Guelph: The Beast of Wellington County
The Beast of Wellington County a video by cool-baby on Flickr.
The movie trailer was made for a competition held by the Lomography gang of film shooters. The first prize is a big bag of Euros to be spent on production of a full film. I have been given a peek into that story board and let me tell you, it will be riveting.
Should you be afraid of The Beast of Wellington County? Oh yes, be afraid, very afraid.
Be sure to check out Mark's other mini movies on his site. He captures nostalgic images of Guelph that are timeless.
That's a wrap!

Blog Guelph: These Streets are Made for Walking
Good Friday lovelies,
On my many trips in and around downtown, I'm most struck by simple methods of communicating.
Of the common sense of place, of civility, and ideas-sharing.
Jargon-free zones.
The familiar places.
Unaffected neighbourliness.
The refreshing realness of it all.
I want nothing from you, nor you I.
This is understood.
I don't need to impress you, nor convince you of anything.
I love the pure and gorgeous notion that the passerby on the street is just as important to my greater sense of community as the more "powerful" public figures are.
Quite honestly, perhaps more so.
I am embraced by these streets, and by the people in the shops, waving and being welcomed for who I am.
Offering and receiving respect.
Someone's smile making mine all that much greater.
Maybe you'll get a feel for it at Market Square tomorrow, as City Hall celebrates the newness of it's space.
Join in the fun.

Blog Guelph: Walking With Chums
Good Bleary Morning,
Today I have dedicated these posts to the faithful chum, the ball of fur that drags you out in all sorts of weather, commonly known as the dog. I admit to being tired because my two K9s decided to wake me every hour to go outside last night. Even though I resisted their endless pacing to and from the door, I gave in after 15 minutes. Is spring on its way? Are they 'feeling their oats?' as my Mum would say. Was their home cooked meal causing some digestive distress? Or I wondered through the night, are they becoming senile?
Enough questions. By the light of the morning, their wagging tails and happy rumpled faces made me forget my sleepless night. During our morning walk and playtime at the park, all was forgiven. Just as dogs don't hold I grudge, how could I? Seeing dogs romp in the snow together and watching their silly antics warms my heart every time.
Thanks Rudy & Ting!!
Have a grand day.
