Ah Thanksgiving.
Handily avoiding a full delve into the sketchy history of this holiday weekend, we may just be able to consider things beyond our own noses.
(Noses do come into play though. As with apple pie.)
It's my favourite statutory holiday because it's about food, about the harvest and - here's hoping - the wider view of just what thanks could be. I'm personally grateful for the teachers who have imparted..."silence from the talkative, tolerance from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind" (Gibran).
So, this weekend and all days to come, remember to give thanks for even the harshest of lessons, attempt to broaden your perspective, and at least try impress upon yourself the awareness that it's not all about you.
Oh yes. And eat, drink & be merry too.
But be immensely grateful that you even can.
