Blog Guelph: Remembering Dad

Happy Monday Blog Guelph.

Today has been a rough one for me. It was 7 years ago today my Dad passed away. In the blink of an eye, he fell of the face of the earth.

A sudden, massive heart attack stole him from us. My sister. My brother. Me.

He was just 52 years old, and even though he always warned us "one day I won't be here", we never thought it would be so soon.

Every year, this day is hard. Very hard. In fact, it may be the hardest day of the year.

I seem to save all my grief and all my emotion for this day. And still, when it comes, I try to hold it in. Generally, I can cope a little better every year... but today was not a good one.

My heart is heavy, and my eyes are full of tears. I know we all grieve differently, but sometimes I wish I could let it out on other days too. Little bursts of grief, instead of full blown despair.

I've accepted that the hurt will never be gone. Today, more than anything, I wish I could have one more hour with my Dad. A chance to tell him I love him, and want to make him proud. A chance to hear him sternly call me "Krista Lynn" again. A chance to get just one more hug from him.

If you can, make sure you call your Dad today, and tell him that you love him. Better yet, if you can give you Dad a hug, do it and hold him tight.

I would give anything to hug mine just one more time.
