Blog Guelph: Tall Trees Are Known By Their Shadows

Tall Trees Are Known By Their Shadows: an old Chinese proverb.

There are people that I know who are like this.

Like tall trees.

Imposing figures. Like towers.

I've loved people like this too.

Big people. Big ideas. Big charisma.

Big shadows.

It's hard to say how we feel when we are made to stand in the shadow of the tall tree. Are we protected? Are we defended? Or are we hidden? Unremarkable? Are we safe or are we sad? Are we loved or are we lost?

And standing there in shadow, will we be able to be tall trees too some day? Will we grow?

Many wonderful things are afoot in our community as we celebrate new milestones in 2012. The tall trees of Guelph are known by their impact on our city. I do not need to point them out to you.

You will know them by their shadows.
