Blog Guelph: Guelphites Giving Generously

Joy by Julia Busato Photography

We know that Guelph is a great place to live and that it is full of creative folks. An added bonus is how generous these local folk are. Take the images from today's posting.  The members of The Guelph Photographers Guild banded together under the leadership of Karen Brodie to work on the Help Project, a brilliant idea that helps individuals have professional portraits who would not normally have access to such an indulgence. Members of Community Living Guelph Wellington, were treated like royalty as the cosmetology teacher from College Heights came also to volunteer her skills.

This was a fabulous event and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to members of the Guild share their experiences. It was heartwarming to hear about all of the great stories and fantastic people who sat for their portraits. Talk about an example of what goes around comes around. How inspiring to all of us!

Check out the posting from Doug J England to read his take on being a volunteer photographer.

Cheers!

Blog Guelph: Bring On The Snow

dark winter night by NaturesEssence

Happy Tuesday Blog Guelph!

I know many of you may think I am crazy, but I can't wait until we get some snow. Lucky for me, it sounds like we are going to get some white goodness overnight tonight. Of course, that means enduring a long day full of grey and bleak rain first.

There is just something about the snow that warms my heart. Ice skating, and tobogganing and snowball fights are all in the near future, and I really can't wait.

Bundling the kids up, fighting to squeeze ice skates on tiny feet and searching for that darn missing mitten. Yup, I know... Crazy :)

The truth is, more than anything I love the silence that you hear as the snow falls. The way it muffles the choas of everyday life. Have you ever sat outside and just listened to the most beautiful quiet the snow brings?

See you all next week!

Blog Guelph: The Birds

Are you aware that Blog Guelph's joined the Twitterverse? We're sharing photos there as @blogguelph. Follow us!
If you're familiar with Twitter you've no doubt seen their logo ... a chirping bird in flight.
Birds intrigue me - particularly when they're on wires or in flocks - so today i've chosen to share a selection of bird shots ranging from minimalist to Hitchcockian.
Hope you have a great week!

Blog Guelph: Word

"spare time" graffiti, originally uploaded by kim/ber.

"Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
-Rudyard Kipling-

Words hold such power and sway.
Some like to use them as weapons, others as a gift of flowers.
Some words are misconstrued, misheard, misread, misappropriated.
Taken for granted and abused.
Overused, undervalued.
Usurped.
Some like to prettify their words to impress, many are good at this but not all are successful.
Some - like myself - enjoy mashing words together.
Making them my own.

But some are direct and thus clear.
To the point.
I have a poet friend who has the ability to place two words in perfect precision side by side, each word elevating the others meaning.
Devastatingly beautiful.

Look at this short video to see how the power of words can, "radically change your message and your effect upon the world".

Head to and fro, back and Fourth downtown tonight. See if you can spot the words. Listen to others words. Create your own.

Choose your words carefully.
Or not.
But say what you mean.
And mean what you say.

-Downtown Lynn-

Blog Guelph: Just Dance!

Good Morning!

Here is a post on the fly today. Even though the weather may be a bit gloomy today, I strongly advise that you crank up the stereo and just dance!!

Nothing beats the blues like dancing barefoot, with your eyes closed and allowing yourself to move to the rhythm.

Cheers!

Happy Tuesday Blog Guelph!

It is hard to deny it any more, Christmas IS coming.

I have chosen some pictures to share with you from Sunday's Santa Claus Parade. It was a great day for it too.

If you missed it, fear not. There are a couple of local parades happening this coming Saturday, November 26. Elora has an evening parade starting at 6pm, and the Erin Parade starts at 1:30 in the afternoon. Get out if you can and support Guelph's surrounding communities.

See you next week :)
