I love the spring-time feel to this image. It just smacks of the freshness of exploring a world that has weathered the winter. There is a great optimism in this, of morning coffees on the porch, afternoon picnics, and late night bonfires. Hope you were all able to find a little spring in your day!

I love the inbetween of the seasons. It is like a brief best-of as the snow falls but melts within days, and the ice and frost of the morning gives way to the warm of the afternoon. I was shocked yesterday when I realized it was 7pm and still light. Time to get the bike out!

I have been awestruck by this small set of images Donna posted last week. What a soft feel to the light and to the focus, as though within the haze are the years of diners and drinkers, their stories still swimming in the ether. I really enjoy how she has quietly presented these as a set and how they feel like the visual record of the over-coffee discourse, the silences, the sips, and the stories. Donna and I have been espresso-ing around Guelph for the passed few months and what a riot it has been sitting down in the below-the-radar establishments. Perhaps we will release our list of top three cappuccino joints!

The sun is amazing out there today. The air might be cold but the sun is certainly trying to warm us up. AND today I saw a cardinal, and yesterday a robin. It is slowly but surely becoming a different season.

Looks like the winter enthusiasts get to play for one last weekend. Of course I have no idea if this is the end of winter - I still remember an April snow storm that buried my family home and vehicles for 4 days before we saw another human being. Of course this was in snow belt Ontario. But still.

We may think Guelph is in the banana belt but just look outside. That white stuff is not fruit.

So then - The Resilience Festival is happening this weekend. Seems to include a wild variety of activities like: Organic Gardening Workshop, Relay to Earth Hour, Jenikz in Concert, plus lots of other stuff. Of course Earth Hour is Saturday night at 8:30 - please power down!

Beyond that - there's always the opportunity to just hang out and be instead of do, do, doing.

Phew! Yesterday was an all day snowfest, and today the sun shines!
It won't be warm enough to melt the piles I haven't shovelled off the deck, but it's there, and it's welcome.

I've been playing this song quite a bit still. I'd like to think she is singing about Newfoundland. The sycamores could be switched to junipers in the song, and the mountains to the bog. :)

I went out for an hour long walk at lunch. It was nice to feel spongey grass underfoot, but Sue had it right with all the dog do do out there.
I think I need to start documenting weird found objects now with my iphone. I can say yesterday I saw a giant bloated rubber glove, countless plastic bags, a cantalope, and I could go on.

Although I have yet to see a robin in the flesh, I've heard them singing. Always nice to have these cheerful chaps and gals back in town.

I'm cobbled together a small selection of Signs of Spring for you to view. But really - if you want face time with our newest season, best to get outside and walk around. Be mindful of the minefield of dog crap though.

Tuesday March 22nd is World Water Day!

In celebration of this annual event, the Wellington Water Watchers are holding a SOUP FEST from 11:30 am to 1:15 pm on Tuesday in front of the Old Quebec St. Mall.

A delicious bowl of soup prepared by the Cornerstone Restaurant will be available for $10.

James Gordon will be on hand providing live entertainment.

Please come out and support the Wellington Water Watchers on World Water Day!

Well, it is College Royal this weekend up on campus. Let me touch on some of the highlights; THE CAT SHOW, I have always meant to take in this event, and long has it been a source of wonder, back after a 23 year hiatus THE BEARD GROWING COMPETITION (at first I misread this as Bread Growing and thought, "how strange"), THE JUNIOR TRACTOR RODEO for the kids, and THE PANCAKE FLIPPING CONTEST (with pancakes to follow!), are just a few of the events happening up there this weekend. Pancake breakfasts are a fixture in the West, sort of like dropping your "g"s from your verbs, and I think I'll check that out this weekend. There are also a number of student/club displays, and a whole lot of animals. You'll find a list of events/activities here.
