December is when I start to feel the lack of sunlight. The winter yawns before me in one grey mass of expectant snowfall and long evening shadows fly wildly low.
But, recently I was thinking just maybe winter is nature's way of making Canadians pause and take stock of themselves. After all, we do have a tradition of making resolutions to bring in the new year. Forgive the pun, but perhaps it is part and parcel of the season that we should be made to slow down, assess, and make room for future change in our lives.
A lot of matches will strike in the coming weeks as we celebrate with our friends, community, and family. May that light flood the winter months to come.
And as we all take time to step back from the usual routines, let's remember for ourselves, to strike another match and be open to starting anew.
