Blog Guelph: Church and Moon

Good Morning Guelph,
Here are some striking images from Steven Petric / Royal_Rivers . I am quite of the perspective he has used in these city/nature scapes. Part celebration of sky, of space, of openess, and a real feeling of place and ground. Sure this composition is at odds with convention, but it is really refreshing. If you have yet to check out Steven's work then I'd highly recommend a look-through. He has a great vision.

Have a wonderful long weekend,

Blog Guelph: Day of Visual Delights

Last night I attended the monthly meeting of the Guelph Photography Club at a local popular drinking establishment.  This clan of photographers is an interesting and fun crew.  From the latest technology with some of the biggest lenses I have seen to the most basic and honest humble film cameras, you can experience it all. This is not an exclusive group, all are welcome to share, learn and ask questions. Heck I learned how to load a film camera from the 1930's!

I share with you know some of the visual delights of many who were in attendance last night. A band of them disappeared off into the downtown night, lighting their way with off camera flashes creating amazing scenes.  Enjoy!

Good Morning, and Happy Tuesday to you all!

It looks like it is going to be a gorgeous day today. The perfect kind of day for getting out and exploring around you.

I love this time of year because the colours are so rich and crisp. The flowers are bold, and the trees proudly show envy. If you care to let yourself get lost in the day, everything can feel a little bit dreamy.

I hope you all have a great day!

Blog Guelph: Reflections of a Guelph Lake Sunrise

It's a fine morning in the neighbourhood and a stellar day on Blog Guelph. I have faved a rich selection of images for you to sink into - perhaps even be inspired by as you start your week.

Annie Dillard claims, "The whole creation is one lunatic fringe." Thoreau offers, "Nature is mythical and mystical always, and spends her whole genius on the least work." I say, "Wow - would you look at that!"

Gratefully our fantastic foto takers have an eye for Mom Natures riot of colour, texture and shape.

For today, what ever you do - make it beautiful.

I have a whole load of plans this weekend. I want to ride my bike and take pictures all day. I want to clean the house top to bottom. I want to garden until there is some sort of controlled order out there. AND most importantly I want to sleep. I want to sleep til 8am both days.
In reality I will probably take photos for a couple of hours or until it starts to rain. Cleaning the house will consist of the barest amount because I will come across something I need to organize. The garden just might stay the same. I like chaos.

Whatever you do, I hope it's fun and you get to do it your way!

Blog Guelph: Jay Morrison

Good Morning BG.

Well, it looks like Thursday will be my day for posting, and I thought I'd roll out a mashup of commentary and Made in Guelph. I've been thinking a lot about photography these days, about process, vision, influences, and goals. I am sometimes disappointed by how easy it is in the photo-circles for people to default to the safety of self and equipment rather than having the confidence and humility to keep the focus on the images. I have been following the Shutter Sisters blog lately and I really identified with the post on the value of looking back through your stream to figure out what you are drawn to shoot. I gave a talk at a local photography club last year on critiquing images, mostly critiquing your own work, where I stressed this point and today's photographer is an excellent example of this. I have featured four images from Jay Morrison, a local photographer that I met recently at a cafe in Hespeler. I've featured his work before, but not in this format. Jay has an amazing fluidity and ease shooting buildings and they are his most frequent subject in his flickr stream. He has an enviable and inspiring way of presenting these buildings in a manner that they are engaged with, but not isolated from, their surroundings, a sort of whole image approach. There is a consistency to his images that lend to cohesion but such a variety that demonstrates he knows what and why he photographs. If you aren't familiar with Jay and his images, I would highly recommend you take a long around his flickr stream.

Hope you have a wonderful day,

Blog Guelph: Misty Greetings

Good Mid-morning!

The amazing Sue Richards has been kind enough to invite me to participate in being your Girl-Wednesday for BlogGuelph.  What an honor!  Guelph has so many talented image makers creating mouth watering eye candy. Blog Guelph: Summer Begins

What a gorgeous day we have had to start the summer season.

Bright. Breezy. Warm.

There was even a little bit of gentle, warm summer rain in the mid day mix.

What more could we ask for? Let's hope all the summer days are as perfect as this one has been.

Today I chose only one photo to post. Everything about Kim's image screams summer to me, and was an obvious choice.

Monday greetings and salutations!

SUMMER IS HERE! Okay - maybe not quite - tomorrow at 1:16 pm the fair maiden will be arriving with warm breezes and sunny skies! Slather on the sunscreen and pop a cool one - she'll be gone in no time.

As we change from spring to summer, Blog Guelph will be making a shift too. I'm very pleased to welcome two new bloggers to our esteemed list. The wonderfully creative Bunny Safari will be showing off her fave photo pics on Wednesday's starting this week.

On Tuesday's we'll be served up the creative vision of Krista Kruger - I have a sense that we're in for a treat!
Downtown Lynn is going back to the business of keeping Guelph funky so Donna will take over the reins for our Friday foto finds. Lynny will be back to pinch hit hither and fro.

I'm back in the saddle again after a nasty spring of illness - I hope to light the Monday fire and get the weekly picture party started.

Thursday is still a mystery. I have fingers crossed that Paula will be on deck but....let's see what Thursday brings.

Change. It's always happening. Might just as well embrace it.

Today I spotted felixtrio's infrared images on flickr and had to post them here on Blog Guelph! Now is the time with all the green to get out a roll or convert in photoshop or get your camera fiddled with so it takes this sort of photo. Great work, Bruce!
I hope you all have a fantastic day.

Blog Guelph: Busy Bee

Busy Bee, originally uploaded by Krista Kruger.
I've been busy. It's been a lot like the bee in Krista's gorgeous photo above. I could use a couple, at least, extra hours in a day. Heck I could use even a half hour in the morning to get Blog Guelph posted with the great photography that is being posted on flickr. I totally forgot and I would have again today if the iphone didn't remind me when I woke up.

Anyway, I'm sure you're all busy, and you know what I'm saying.
Have a great day everyone. I'm off!

Good Afternoon. Just one image today. It has already been a long day, the allergies are slowing me down, and I've got mozzie bites the size of toonies and then some! Hope you enjoy Cool_baby's photo, he is a really DIY-er with the film and such!

Blog Guelph: Tree Tops

WOW - what a storm! I fear it was not a good night for the big trees of Guelph. The most alarming aspect of the storm, for me, was the green lightning, or maybe the sideways rain, or when the tree tops dipped well below the upstairs windows. The tree carnage on the streets is incredible and hopefully tomorrow there will be plenty of pics of the aftermath. On my walk to work this morning I felt like I had walked through the morning-after of Mother Nature's wedding. Wild.

Hoping your cleanup is minimal,

Tree Tops
