Blog Guelph: Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival
Friday!
Phewf.
Do you know what's delightful?
Beyond our gardens bursting beyond belief, our feet moving from boot to sandal, and the irrepressible sense of hopefulness of course...what is especially delightful to me is that it's the time of year for the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival to explode upon our parks, streets, studios and stages.
So head on down to Exhibition Park this coming Thursday, at 7pm to witness dance groups that use the grass and the trees to tell their story. If you have to miss that evening performance, it is repeated again at noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
Come visit my hood Friday at noon in St. George's Square Downtown, and witness emerging choreographers In The Street, where..."ideas and bodies bounce off old stone and new concrete to create a community-engaging spectacle."
These are both pay what you can performances.
And please do not miss the world-class performances On The Stage at the River Run Centre both Friday and Saturday night.
Dance people, dance!

Blog Guelph: Soggy Night
Just one image today - and what an image it is. I love the contrast in there, the tonal range, the clarity, and the perspective. Julia has really captured the feel and the quiet to this street. You can feel the dampness and the weight of the wet. There is a timeless quality to this scene, and she has done an amazing job communicating a sense of isolation. Julia has a rich and varied stream and if you haven't checked it out on flickr, do it and enjoy the show, talent, humour, honesty, and great skill, you won't be disappointed!

Blog Guelph: downtown guelph
I meant to post earlier! My computer is slow, oh so slow these days, but a friendlier pal is in the works, and the next time I post, watch out!
Take care everyone, and did you see the blue sky? Leaving work tonight a coworker exclaimed, "what is that?" it was the sun!!

Blog Guelph: Niska Trail

Good morning BG! WOW, what a weekend for getting out on the Guelph trails. I was out four separate times, include a jaunt up Starkey with Donna for pictures. Dogs, people, children, it was just great to see so many people out enjoying the green places in and around this city. I might just have to hit another trail after work. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Blog Guelph: Jane's Walks
Last week I waxed on about Doors Open Guelph, which was, by the way, a brilliant success by all accounts. Now I want to see you out walking again this weekend at one of the many Jane's Walks around our fair town, in honour of the indomitable and visionary Jane Jacobs.
Explore your City. Meet your neighbours. Learn a little something.
Most of all, have fun out there.
“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.”
— Jane Jacobs, ‘The Death and Life of Great American Cities’

Blog Guelph: Reaching For The Clouds
Blog Guelph: In the Middle

Good Morning,
I was really moved by these images, particularly by the stunning softness used in each. In each case, the delicate nature of the subject is so well translated to the image. Julia and Krista are able feel their way through a flower to isolate a beautiful composition. I am really inspired by their sensitive but confident use of focus and their restrained use of colour. As the cherry and magnolia trees come into bloom, it is going to be a great time to get out photographing.
Have a great day,
Paula

Blog Guelph: Arboretum

Yikes, this is a very late post, my apologies.
It has been a crazy day of making title cards for photos and I thought a picture from a place of quiet and reflection was in order. I love the Arboretum and it has been an amazing space for me to develop my own photography in both skill and vision, and I am certainly not alone in this! The Guelph flickr stream is teeming with photographers returning to their favourite nooks with variations in seasons, weather, and equipment. So if you go there for the photography, what is your favourite spot? I think this boardwalk is tops on many lists.

Blog Guelph: Noncompetitive Charity Ride!

Good Afternoon BG.
I am getting quite excited for this summer on my bike. There is just something about pedaling yourself around, whether for groceries, a gentle glide, or 100 miles along the backroads! Here's to a great summer on two wheels.

Blog Guelph: Sad Little Flower
Good morning Guelph,
I would like to thank Donna for blogging for me last week while I was out of range of the internet. I heard Guelph got much rain and very little of anything else so I thought I'd celebrate that by posting some beautiful rain-related images. I love Julia's Sad Little Flower, how the focus and the composition impart such heaviness to the drops on those light petals. I hope you are all able to enjoy what rolls in with your day.
ALSO, make time to VOTE today!
I'm off to the polls,
Paula
