Blog Guelph: Big Red One

Big red one, originally uploaded by cool-baby.

A beautiful Friday to all of you.
Love them or hate them, I believe we've had our fill of the Royals by now. Which is why I'm veering us back in the direction of our own Royal City.
Doors Open has been opening doors in Ontario since 2002, with Guelph occurring the first Saturday in the long line-up of cities gazing lovingly at their hometown heritage. This lovely Red Rooster by Cool Baby is a key landmark in Guelph, and will be front and centre as Bernardi Precast on Elizabeth Street is added to the Guelph repertoire. Here's a bit of his history: Turn Right at the Rooster.
So get out there tomorrow. Take a gander at things kept hidden from us the rest of the year. Steep yourself in the past.

Even if it doesn't feel like it, it is springtime after all.

p.s. Don't miss the Manor too!

Blog Guelph: Duelling, Puddle-style

Duelling, Puddle-style, originally uploaded by QUOI Media.
I woke up to a sun filled room, and minutes later the darkness came, and then the rain. I think we'll have a mixed bag today.
Quite a few times yesterday I peered outside to see if I could run home from work, and I sure did. I hopped over puddles all the way, but it was good times for sure.
I didn't get a lot done yesterday on Blog Guelph, but those two photos I posted didn't need my words. Stunning!
Today, I have photos from QUOI Media. How fun is the photo above?!

Have a great day everyone! PAULA, will be back next week with hopefully tales of her adventures, and Lynn will be here tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Blog Guelph: The Long Road

The Long Road, originally uploaded by chris_starscream.

Good morning!
I've been reading about sriracha sauce. There is always a large bottle on the table at work, and we go through a lot in a month. It's even now bought by the company. I never use it. But the other day I read about a restaurant that makes a blend of ketchup and rooster sauce. I kept thinking about it and finally last night whipped some up for some potato wedges. Delicious!

I'm going against the norm and posting one photo today, folks. Yesterday I said I would spice up my posts. (I did with the above sriracha talk.) Sometimes the words just aren't there. It's a good thing there are so many stunning photos to blog here on Blog Guelph.
I hope you have a great day. I wish I had set up the rain barrels.

Blog Guelph: Stump

Stump, originally uploaded by kmitts2000.

Phew, what a week. At 5pm today, I might do a little victory dance for getting through it. 'Cause tomorrow I will be chillin', and hoping I can sleep in, and that a certain bunny doesn't decide to be ill again!
I had hoped to post a recipe and more photos than I have.
Remember to click away on the photos and then meander around on the photographer's flickr streams.
Have a good one, and hopefully those dark skies I'm seeing out my window blow away for this weekend!

Good Morning!
How are you?
Crazy weather, eh? Yesterday we had a little bit of everything. I was happy to have slipped out during a break in it all to get a big fat cookie from With the Grain. I sure hope the cranberry sunflower cookies will be sitting on that counter from here on out. Delicious. Paula they rival the lemon square!
So today I've got a trio of photos from Richie Preiss. You can click on any of the photos and enter his flickr stream.

Have a great day!

Ahoy mateys!
Coming at you later in the day just to keep your interest piqued...
I bring you Friday's One Shot Wonder from the magnificent kim/ber.

And hey, if you have yet to engage with this fantastically energetic event since it began Wednesday, it is not too late. Kazoo Festival takes place here, there and everywhere in where else but Downtown Guelph. Just to whet your appetite, King Cobb Steelie is at Van Gogh's tonight. I believe it's been 20 years since performing here last....

See you where the streetlights beckon,

Blog Guelph: Bunker Door

Have you ever been to Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph? It is a really amazing space to explore and lends itself beautifully to photography. One could spend an entire year photographing within this space and not feel bored. I have presented one image today from Scott Hattle, a wonderful panorama image with an incredibly rich tonal range. There will be more to follow tomorrow when I have a little more time to put a proper portfolio together.
Hope you have all had a wonderful day,

Blog Guelph: Pussy Willows

I am pleased to have found this set of flowers so beautifully photographed by Kelly Hughes. The focus is so well matched to the softness and the tones of the petals. There is a respectful delicateness to the way she has presented these flowers and I really enjoy her perspective. I hope you are all able to find some beauty in your day. Thanks Kelly!

Blog Guelph: Community Garden

Good Afternoon Guelph,

I have posted a selection of images from Denim and Oliverstreet of the Community Gardens in The Ward. This weekend certainly brought the Spring-induced migration to the out of doors and it seemed that most yards were getting a bit of a refresh after the Winter. Community Gardens seem to really be taking off in Guelph. They were the talk of today's Cake Club, with many of my coworkers discussing plans for their own gardens and satellite plots through the city. Soon enough it will be time for meals made entirely of sun warmed tomatoes!

Hope you were all able to get outside this weekend,

Blog Guelph: why didn’t you take it while it was still there?

Just one photo today! I'm so rushed and I knew I should have jumped out of bed sooner!

About this photo - I love it! It's taken with a little plastic panorama camera, that are cheap as chips. I usually have one kicking around in my bag, but since I got a fancy panorama, the little guy gets very little work. After seeing this shot, it's coming with me.
Anyway, have a great day! Tomorrow, we have Lynn posting! Yay! Oh, and it will be Friday! Yay!

Blog Guelph: Pondering

Pondering, originally uploaded by crisscrossgirl.

I'm sitting here watching a sort of snow rain mix fall outside my window. The elements they are fighting. Winter is losing it's control!
Spring will prevail!
Looking out my window, I also see bits of tulip leaves poking sweetly up out of the ground. Last year I finally added to the 5 or 6 bulbs that came with the house, or did I add the year before. hmm. Either way, there will be more tulips.

Have a great day everyone, and have a look at the photos, give a click and peer away.

Blog Guelph: What up?

What up?, originally uploaded by P.Freeman.

Good Morning!
Last night when the snow started to come down and the light was dim, I so wanted to grab the camera and head out. Alas, the comfort of my couch, and my blanket of two cats, made it impossible.

Sue, asked me to post for her today. Keep her in your thoughts, and hope she's feeling better soon.

This one is for you Sue - a wee video of a wee girl, who I think is going to rule the world with her talent when she's old enough. I love everything about this video. I love the oven mitt on the table, and the play doh off to the left. It's a family's kitchen table, with it's life, capturing a moment. Highly inspiring.

Have a great day, Guelphites and world readers! I'll be back tomorrow!
