Today's post is all about trees. Come to think of it, a lot of my posts here on Blog Guelph feature trees.
Here's something you might be interested in, Little Art for Big Trees...Call for Submissions. I'm thinking Sue has posted about this already. Take this as a reminder then. :)

Blog Guelph: Woof ?

Woof ?, originally uploaded by lizlio.

What a pretty sight out there today. I can't tell if it's snowing, but softly there are bits falling. Maybe it's from higher tree branches. Yesterday I took a cue from a neighbour and shoveled snow onto the yard. I think he imports all the snow from around and piles it on his back yard of a garden. Soon his windows will be filled with seedlings, and cold frames will be set up outside. His slow and steady way of gardening is inspiring. I'll tell you what else is inspiring...this photo.

I hope your day is sun filled!

Blog Guelph: IMG_0626gpg

Made in Guelph - Fossil Light / Doug
IMG_0626gpg Originally uploaded by Fossil Light

We are very pleased to feature the work of Fossil Light/Doug, a local photographer currently amassing a particularly amazing set of abstract images. His often abbreviated subjects are presented in such a unique and engaging way. It is clear that he takes the time to consider and feel his subjects ahead of his compositions. You can really feel the respect he has for nature and landscape in the gentle ease and flow he includes in his images. There is a quiet confidence that underpins his work, such that he needs neither dominate nor control his subjects, instead giving space within his frames for the elements to be and to breath. His use of blur speaks to a great understanding of how an experience of landscape is perhaps not best translated to an image as a simple 2D rendering of the physical reality. The abstract nature of many of his images is an interesting means of constructing a greater story from his location shoots. I was really moved by his record of the auto junkyard as told through these abstracted works. I would highly recommend a stroll through his stream, you will not be disappointed. Thank you, Doug, for the inspiring photographs, and for a reminder that what we see is not necessarily how we experience.

Hope you are all enjoy the resurgence of winter!

Blog Guelph: Cedar Veins

Rockwood - Cedar Veins, originally uploaded by Dave Noyle.

I hope your weekend was perfect.
There was a lot of curling on the tv this weekend for me. We even left a party so we could get home to watch most of the game on Saturday night. (shhh, don't tell our friends)

Today the photos are all from The Guelph Photography Club pool on flickr. They're having a meeting tonight at The Albion starting at 7pm. It's an informal meeting where members can bring prints and cameras and chat about everything under the sun. I'm positive you'll be welcomed into the group!

Have a great day everyone!

Blog Guelph: going home

Made in Guelph - BleechBiPass / Clinton Tonge

going home Originally uploaded by BleechBiPass

We are pleased to feature, if a day late, the black and white night photography of Clinton Tonge. There are many faces and feels to Guelph and Clinton has done an amazing job capturing that unique-electricity that still floats through the streets after the sun goes down. Clinton balances his exposures so well such that the blacks really feel like night has filled the silent spaces while the whites illuminate an intimate world.    These isolated worlds defined by the light make me wonder about that which we see, and moreso function as an exploration of the consequence of choices, worlds experienced and realities unexplored.  In his images, I find that you can hear his scenes, footfalls on the concrete sidewalk, car tires on a wet road, and the hum of the night that is otherwise silenced by the din of the day. Clinton's composition is exceptional which translates to a really strong sense of interaction and interplay between the elements within his images. Perhaps it this that allows for an easy and effortless transition from viewing to participating for those who take the time to really experience his photographs. Night photography is an incredibly difficult discipline and Clinton does this extremely well. This is but a very small subset of his work, and I would highly recommend you taking the time to look through his stream.

Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, even it is does throw the timing off!

Blog Guelph: Twin Hearts

Twin Hearts, originally uploaded by crisscrossgirl.

It has been a loved soaked week for me so I'm breaking with Friday's single photo tradition in an effort to share the vibe. Lucky you get 3 - 3 - 3 heart-y GEMS today.

Crisscrossgirl has both good timing and an eye for loving shapes. Love is a path - or in this case a sidewalk.

Walk softly.

Blog Guelph: All YOU need is LOVE

John Lennon, originally uploaded by Jillshuggah.

Our 3rd GEM for this Friday comes from Jillshuggah - with the help of John Lennon and an unknown Northumberland Street graffiti artist.

To celebrate Valentine's and Family Day, make this Beatles tune your ear worm for the loooong weekend!

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you
in time - It's easy.

All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
All you need is love (all together now)
All you need is love (everybody)
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

Blog Guelph: The Hillside Inside Crowd, Guelph, ON

Looks like Hillside Inside was a success! You can check out the rest of Peter and Chris' photos from the event on their flickr streams. Thanks for sharing guys.
I'll make another pass through the flickr groups for more photos from the event and post them on Monday. So far, I've only seen photos from the two photographers posted here today.

Well, the sun is calling me and since I've been a little under the weather the past week, I'm taking advantage of my feeling better. I'm hitting the sidewalk, camera in hand.
Have a great day everyone!
