Well, Peeps, that's it for us until the new year. We'll be back on the fourth with plenty of tales, and if not tales, we'll have plenty of photos.
Thanks for looking in on Blog Guelph. I wonder sometimes just who does. So a big shout out to all who do!
A special thanks to all those that allow to have their photos blogged here. I love the vast array of talent and different perspectives on a place we call home. (hugs)
So, from all of us, to all of you, have a safe and happy holiday!

Blog Guelph: keeping tabs
I am pleased to highlight the work of local young photographer emilyclaire.. Her work has a liberating brashness to it. Amongst the assertive compositions and deftly handed tonal ranges you can really hear her laughing with her world. There is a boldness consistent to her images that speaks to an embraced engagement with her world that is effortlessly translated to her images. She does an amazing job developing a solid context for her subjects, like the interplay between graffiti and environment, which really serves to support the narrative of her work. emilyclaire. also seems particularly drawn to shape and again presents this in such a dynamic way that you come to realize this long after you have considered her images. I was really amazed by how she manages to present an idea, say squares or rectilinear shapes, and then subtly mocks the conformity/uniformity by including circles in the wood, or the organic flow of a hose. There is an honesty of the realized image with emilyclaire.'s work that is incredibly inspiring and admirable, I encourage you to take a look through her stream and I know you want be disappointed!
Hope the weather in Guelph is enjoyable and Happy Holidays to all you Blog Guelph readers!

Blog Guelph: Bokeh eh!
Tomorrow you will find Paula, right here, for Made in Guelph.
Today you have me and an assortment of photos. I quite like a bit of this and a bit of that sometimes. I try and stick with a theme or a mood here on Blog Guelph. Not today. We've even got a project. Lynn posted this first photo of her bokeh kit that she made herself, and this photo is a result of the leaf cutout. Wouldn't that shot make a great card?
I have ideas now for a bunny bokeh!
Here's a link for a create your own bokeh with links to a flickr group and other projects.
Have a great day, everyone!

I don't have much in the way of words today. I do have an assortment of fantastic pics from around Guelph. Have a click below.
I will leave you with a video from a band, that I've been playing a lot lately. I've been checking itunes and hoping for a Canadian release soon.
Enjoy the rest of your day. Wasn't it a mild one today?!

Blog Guelph: rudolph!
Today is cold, but the sun is out, and oh the shadows are long on the snow. The snow is sparkling, and I had to use a roll of film on the way home this morning.
I read this article this morning, by one of my favourite writers, Jeanette Winterson, and boy it resonates with me. I think I will read it again tonight.
I hope your day goes well, and have a click on the photos. Doing that will bring you to the photographer's flickr stream.

Blog Guelph: waiting for snow
Seriously, how cute is Ruby!? I love the stance and of course the pink in her booties!
We've got swirling snow falling today, and it's looking pretty out there. This is not the most appropriate song for today, but I'm playing it a lot the last few days. Let's go surfing, by the Drums.
Have a great day everyone!

Blog Guelph:
I am elated to showcase the work of Donna Dobbin, a local photographer who has amassed an amazing, sensitive, thorough, and emotive record of how she has experienced her world. Donna is an example of how photography is best executed, from herself and for herself. She embraces her vision, consciously or not, and shoots and presents the images in her own way. Donna produces incredibly engaging images which speak to awareness she clearly has of her own world. She has the enviable knack of feeling and photographing those elements most people pass by, and her facility with narrative really stops you when you look at her images, or more so when you take the time to feel them. The sway of the trees, the interactions between subjects, the irony in a storefront, all presented full of feeling and rhythm. Donna has adopted an approach to photography that is optimized for herself and her vision, and I think that honesty with self, leads to honesty with seeing, and ultimately to the honesty and authenticity of her images. Her approach isn't fancy; old camera she has taken the time to understand, film chemistry she is empowered to explore, and a level of engagement she does not shy aware from. Perhaps it is the simplicity that results in the image being about the feeling and not about the journey and about the subject and not herself. Trees, graffiti, objects in windows, reflections, puddles, she does it so well and she does it so differently. Donna, thank you for sharing, I have long admired and respected your work and the extent to which you are willing to share. I look forward to following your work in forums much greater than flickr.
I am currently in Alberta where it is -26, so I hope Guelph is much warmer.
Hope you are enjoying your day,
Paula Russell
