Gem of the Day

I'm a little late today. It must be because of my daydreaming with the sun.

I did a quick search to see what is going on this weekend, and came up with Celebrate Tourism Week and get to know Guelph and Wellington County better. Things don't really get under way until the third, but there are some ideas for this weekend on the list. I've never been to the Donkey Sanctuary. Every year I say this is the year. So, maybe this weekend is. :)

Also a heads up for Clean Air Day, Wednesday June 3, 2009. The city is offering free bus rides on all transit routes from 5:40am to 9:15pm.

I made butter this past weekend. It was goat butter, and I don't think I've made food any easier. I remember my mother making butter when I was a kid. We bought a litre of milk daily from a friend, and I was in charge of running down over the hill to get it. What my mother didn't know was, I was skimming off the top, lying in the long grass. Sigh. Ok, back to the butter. It seemed like forever that I would see her churning with a wooden paddle. Me, it took 10 minutes of shaking a mason jar of cream. I'm pretty sure my mother didn't toil for too long, but as a child everything takes forever.
If you do try making butter, I'm pretty sure you need to make no knead bread to put it on.

I also made pickled grapes. Someone on my facebook page said, pickled grapes = jam? This is different, and it is seriously good. It's pretty simple too.

I've just grabbed a smattering along the more floral lines for today's post because, well, it's spring after all...
Oh, and a shoe too. And a truck.
But mostly flowers up close and personal.
He does see so much more than this however.

I've been doing a heap of Wiking about town lately and have noticed the bumper crop of dandelion's the city is sporting. Personally, I feel friendly toward the edible beauty- so much so that today's photo series features multiple perspective of the plant. Our downtown Lynn, is gearing up for a super busy day, and so I am doing the Made in Guelph series today.

I'm pretty sure Peter has been featured more than once here on Blog Guelph, but here he is again!
If you're interested in seeing Peter's photos up close check them out at the Alma gallery downtown. His photography will be hanging, along with other photographers, until May 31st.

Peter, also put into motion a photography club here in Guelph, along with other photographers. Tomorrow is the first official meeting, and also when I will be doing a presentation on my photography. Here's the thread on flickr where the group needs a head count for proper seating, and also where you'll find all the details.

Gem of the Day

I haven't been to the Aberfoyle Market in a few years, but that might change this weekend. The last time I was there, while I was in the washroom, a lady asked me if I found any cameras yet. For a second I thought, does she know me from flickr, but then realized there were no photos of myself in my stream. It was all a little creepy, until she said she had a booth, and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I was a woman on a mission.
