Blog Guelph: Church of Our Lady - Inside

Inaction Sampler, originally uploaded by TheGiantVermin.

Greetings from Guelph on this bright and breezy Wednesday.

Today's photo tour steps INSIDE one of Guelph's finest features, the lovely Church of Our Lady.

Several of today's pics are a result of the Guelph Flickr Photography Club's recent field trip - which coincidentally is meeting tonight. The club that is.

If you're keen to join the club or attend the meeting, give this link a tap.

And also because it's Wednesday, here's a reminder to tune into Royal City Rag - hosted by the talented Jan Hall on the CFRU.FM air waves - 93.3 at 6pm tonight. Featuring the Pantry Café Friday Night Sing-a-long Warm-up with Sam Turton, Jane Lewis, Heather MacRae, Monique Vischschraper, Jan Hall and anyone in the CFRU hallway. Of course car riders and home singers are welcome to join in.

Ah yes Wednesday.... the beloved apex of the week. A lotta church, a little singing and if you live here, a lovely last day of April to enjoy.

Best viewed with an eye for detail.

Blog Guelph: One Missing Piece

One Missing Piece, originally uploaded by AbandonedAccounts.

Good Tuesday All,

For some reason a variety of photos depicting empty chairs and benches caught my eye today.
League of the Empty Chair.
Curious that.
So despite the wonderings why, I'm going to run with this visual theme.
Or sit with it, so to speak.

These are 9 spectacular shots - thought provoking, open - perhaps a wee bit lonely too?
Whichever way you look at it, today you are in for a treat of the seat on the street.

Blog Guelph: Happy Canada Goose

It's Monday.

We finally have April showers and much cooler temperatures in this spring-that-seems-like-summer season. The birds are very happy. Trees are bursting forth and nature is putting on a show.

I've rustled up seven pics to help with your mood today - just in case you're Monday has you down like my Monday has me.

Best viewed with a steamy cup of Earl Grey tea with a gob of sweet milk.

one from Dad, originally uploaded by dje-graphs.
Welcome to Thursday's
Made in Guelph

Today we bring you the photography of dje-graphs, also known as Doug England.
This photo, however, was taken by his father some years ago.
Here is what Doug had to say about this shot:

"Yes my father was an amateur enthusiast photographer. He taught me in the beginning. I grew up in his darkroom at his feet. I still have his 4x5 Crown Graphic, 4x5 DeJur Enlarger, Brownie Box camera and other items. He shot a few weddings back in the day (well for you that would be way way back in the day) I added this photo to my profile section since it is the image that started it all for me."

There you have it.
An inspired two fistfuls of photos from Doug himself follows.
Sit back and enjoy the ride....

Blog Guelph: Happy 181st Birthday Guelph

, originally uploaded by downtownlynn.

Greetings and salutations blog surfers - I'm delighted to report that today is Guelph's birthday!

Please break into the Happy Birthday song now.

Founded April 23, 1827 by John Galt - which means John chopped down a big tree and claimed our beginning - Guelph didn't officially became a city until April 23, 1879, - the 9th city in Ontario - with a whopping population of 10,000.

To help with the celebration, may I encourage all of you to dust off your birthday girl/guy crowns and hit the street. After all, Guelph is us and we are Guelph.

Then check out these cool eleven pics - some old, some new - with links that might just inspire you.

Best viewed with a big slice of carrot cake - with too much cream cheese icing.

What does one get a city that has so much?

Guelph will never have too many trees. So - why not plant a tree(s) for Guelph's birthday!

Birthdays tend to inspire reflection - perhaps a historical overview of time passed and life lived. Luckily we have the Wellington County Museum and Archives to visit - either by clicking the link or taking a drive.

I'd recommend both.

Blog Guelph: Earth Day

, originally uploaded by Denim.

Happy, Happy Earth Day my kindred earthlings.

I don't have any links for you today, despite the abundance of earth-friendly things on the go. You'll no doubt discover your own form of celebration for today, as will I.

Immediately after this posting, the earthly and oh so groovy I plan on stepping outside, onto the very venerable earth, slide alongside the wafting breeze, kick off my office-gurl shoes and sink my toes into some spectacular squishing mud. Hopefully anoint my brain with some measure of reverence for a lucky life on this lovely planet in the hush of a favourite hidey-hole.
My alter-self otherness, however, will simultaneously dodge the buses, avoid human contact with a surrounding (and invisible!) force-field, sneeze a little with my newfound allergies...and so on.

All of it good, all of it a little slice of existence.

So have a fantastic Earth Day, check out these 6 gorgeous pics and click, click, click.
