Blog Guelph: Ho Ho Ho

, originally uploaded by Denim.

Today's six pack of posts perfectly illustrate the current state of Guelph's corner of the universe - snowy, cold and festive.

As you dash and prance about today, remember to access your 'inner Santa' and liberally spread good cheer. Be generous with your smile. Lend a hand. Be open hearted. These are gifts everyone can give, cost no coin and do more for the soul than any gadget ever could.

Merry Merry

Gem of the Day

It's snowing, and it looks like we're in for a lot of it today. I thought, what do I write about besides snow. I check my email and there is a link from Downtownlynn on an underground movement, called Project Snowman. Under a dark sky, a group of people will surreptitiously build a snowman for someone who is unable. What a project!

"Reads the manifesto: “This is an opportunity to serve others who you might not necessarily connect with – without a tangible reward. A little like a senseless act of beauty performed without recognition. A chance to do some good.”

Check out the Guelph Tribune Link for more information. There is also a phone number to suggest a household that might enjoy such an endeavour.

So, yea, there is no getting around not writing about snow today. Take care out there everyone, and have a great weekend!

Blog Guelph: Give Naturally

untitled, originally uploaded by clinton.tonge.

Back in November 2006, I caught wind of a Guelph project that completely captured my imagination - a crazy, ambitious project with a 500-year time frame.

Yes you read that correctly. FIVE HUNDRED YEARS!!

In the last two years, the PLANT AN OLD GROWTH FOREST PROJECT has been gathering strength. The intent - to bring back a piece of the original forest to the grounds of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre just north of the City of Guelph on the east side of Highway 6 and to keep it safe from development for 500 years!!

I've recently joined the Restoration Committee because I want to lend my hand and be on the 'forest' floor of this remarkable legacy.

You too can be involved.

"For every donation of $20 to the Old Growth Forest Project, the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph will set aside a square metre of land, to be protected in perpetuity."

"Each square metre sponsored can be in honour of a loved one through personalized certificates; ideal for gift giving!"

So imagine this - it's the year 2508 and your relatives are paying tribute to you for your forward thinking and involvement as they wander through this magnificent, mature forest.

How friggin cool is that?

Here's the HOW TO . Now please - GO DO.

Blog Guelph: Frostbitten snow

Frostbitten snow, originally uploaded by Christie B.

Right now, I am vowing not to go to the mall this season. Yep. After going through last year's posts on Blog Guelph, I've got a list of places I'm hitting, that involve no mall ( I might step into the Quebec Street mall, but that's it, I swear). It's not that I am anti-mall, I'm anti-crowd.

I think today, it's why these photos all caught my eye. They're quiet, and cold. They are all the opposite of stuffy and crowded. They also have frost, and who can resist frost?

PS: If you are looking for gift ideas, On The Verge blew me away with all their fun stuff.

Blog Guelph: Blog Guelph rocks the Blog Awards!

TH&B fireworks I, originally uploaded by ADT image!nation.

We're Number Two, We're Number Two!

Yesirree folks, you heard it here first.
Blog Guelph has been awarded 2nd place in the Best Photo Arts Category of the 2008 Canadian Blog Awards.
It seems that shamelessly hitting you over the head to vote has paid off, non? Thank you all for receiving those blows graciously and responding generously.

So for todays celebration we'll look at 8 recent photos by Guelphites who each have a different angle from which to view the world.
And what a world we have here people.
Made in Guelph indeed!

Don't let the mere 8 stop you though...click on each and every photo, and then go even deeper. The big picture is limitless.

I'd like three cheers for Sue Richards, whose baby and hard work this truly is.
But lest we forget, in all our giddiness at Blog Guelph headquarters, this is your blog too.

This blog's for you.

Blog Guelph: The Meaning Of Life

The Meaning Of Life, originally uploaded by peterkelly.

Hello yellow greetings on this soggy, weather weary Monday. With one dark week remaining until the winter solstice and the much celebrated return of the suns light, it seemed apropo to fill today's dozen post effort with yummy yellow flavoured pics by our pool of talented fotographers.

Results of the 2008 Canadian Blog Awards should be announced later today - at least the Best Photo Arts Blog category - so consider the celebration of yellow a cheery preamble to that news too.

For now, flood your space with light, crack open a bottle of lemonade and rest your eyeballs on the photo selection. May Blog Guelph light up your life - just a tad.

It's a lovely crisp morning today in Guelph. It's my kinda day. So, I think I might wander downtown for more cowboy cookies at Ouderkirk & Taylor. If you haven't tried, you are in for something amazing. I could go on and on about their soups and bread. Oh, and their cheese, and granola. Pop in, and tell them you heard about them on blogguelph. :)

I just had a look over to see about the blog awards, and the results will be up shortly it seems. Go BlogGuelph!!

Blog Guelph: In a quiet town called Guelph...

This morning I pulled out a little book that I've been meaning to read called, The Facts of Winter by Paul Poissel. And with that title in mind I combed Guelph's photos looking for winter. Of course I could fill this page and more. Winter is all around us in the form of white stuff, and we've been capturing it on film and memory cards to share. Thanks!

I've set up an account here on goodreads that is largely being ignored, but I think that will change soon.
