Blog Guelph: A Midsummer Night's Dream

I attended the Opening Night performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Riverside Park Bandshell last night - and was treated to a very fine display of youthful talent indeed. T'was a delightful way to enjoy a midspring night in Guelph - one that I highly recommend.

Do plan to go. Bring your entire family. But please be prepared for the evening coolness and waves of mosquitoes.

Playing all this weekend and next. Details are posted at Guelph Arts.

Blog Guelph: Between 150 and 300 new ones

Between 150 and 300 new ones, originally uploaded by rdaw.

Welcome to Thursday's
Made in Guelph

Todays feature photographer is rdaw, otherwise know as....well, I'm not absolutely sure.

Rob I believe.

The little we do know about Rob are these things (according to his profile):

"...wife, son, dog, cat. kids, fish - just getting back into photography
after a long time away...."

And aren't we all grateful for that!

What I personally dig about rdaw's photos is his broad range of vision.
So diverse, so personal.
His wry sense of humour too.

Take a gander at these 10 pics and see if you can't glean a thing or two about the man.

As our friend Griz noted about him,

"You have the knack of seeing what everyone sees and turning it into art."

Too true Grizzles, too true.

Blog Guelph: A Very Blue Guelph Lake

Guelph Lake 3, originally uploaded by Andrew Faires.

Yesterday it was black and white. Today it's blue.

Yessireebob! You get a 12 pack of blue fotos in your Wednesday blog box, along with a couple tidbits of non-news, some soft news and one piece of breaking news to chew on for the day.

Here we have the lake-that-was-a-river, our lovely and seemingly oh-so-blue Guelph Lake. Of course you can enjoy biking around the lake, camping on the shore or diving right in. And you can play on it. The Guelph Rowing Club has a new location and clubhouse and the Guelph Community Boating Club - a co-op don'tcha know- have started Tuesday Race Nights.

So then ~ be anything BUT blue as you enjoy today's selection of talented photographers and their rendition of the blues. Click the pics.

Once upon a time, a Knight and his bride were walking along a river. While gathering the little blue flowers for his sweetheart, the Knight fell into the deep and treacherous river.

Just before his armour had pulled him beneath the water, he tossed the flowers to his lover and pleaded, "Forget Me Not!". Those were his dying words.

Ever since, the little blue flower has been known as as the forget-me-not.

GUELPH – Guelph Jazz Festival artistic director Ajay Heble suffered a heart attack Monday during a return flight from Paris where he was attending a conference. He was attended to by physicians and nurses who were on his flight, and the airplane made an emergency landing in Goose Bay, Labrador, where he was transferred to hospital. He is now in stable condition.

Heble is the founder of the Guelph Jazz Festival and has been its artistic director for the past 15 years. He is also a professor of English at the University of Guelph, and the director of a multi-million dollar social research project entitled Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice. It was in regard to the latter project that Heble was in Paris over the previous week.

Blog Guelph: What do you see?

What , originally uploaded by RavenGirlPhotography.
Welcome to Thursday's
Made in Guelph

Today we feature the gorgeous photography of Raven Girl AKA Julia Busato.

In her own words, "I'm a professional amateur.
What I do is my passion.
I'm a Guelphette born and raised for ever to be here and loving it."

RavenGirl has been a favourite of mine for some time now, an exhibiting artist at Downtown Guelph's art on the street (this year, the 6th Annual is Saturday, July 19 by the way), and and all around excellent visionary.

After you've checked out these 10 pics from her photostream, please meander further into her flickr site where you'll see all the fabulous portraiture not covered here today. Then wander on over to her blogspot, to fully experience her magical, mystical world...
