Blog Guelph: The Tail End of February
Welcome to Wednesday.
Today I turn to our beloved and skilled 'The Giant Vermin' for inspiration on how to make it through these last stubborn days of Frosty #^%*# February. Do click on his photos and by all means check out his vanity project from last year. The man's mind is masterful.
I spoke with a Montreal friend yesterday that claimed his city will be introducing a new snow removal system soon. It's called April.
Let's hope Guelph is so lucky.

Blog Guelph: Known to many as the home away from home
Home.
Home is where the heart is.
Home Sweet Home.
Homeward bound.
Sweet home Alabama.
So many notions of what home means to each of us.
Have a look-see at the various homes discovered in Guelph and environs - or at least what some call home.

Blog Guelph: Spring Forward
Greetings this Monday morning and welcome to a day of cyber summer on Blog Guelph.
Allow me to flash back to what will be our future - a future of green lushness, bold colours and bare flesh. Yes despite being stuck in 'leap month' for an extra day/eternity, I have faith, oh yes indeed I do believe that winter will end and our frozen bones will thaw.
Spring, summer and fall will return fair Guelphites. The snow will go. Amen.
Please enjoy today's set of seven summery Guelph shots taken by the talent that swims in the Guelph Flickr Pool. Best viewed in bare feet and short sleeves, sucking back a beer.

Total Lunar Eclipse
Ah the dripping red orb, the magic of the heavens.
Scratch that.....I'll let Thomas Hardy wax poetic about last night's spectacular lunar eclipse and spare you the pain.
Clearly there was a handful of us out there freezing their wee fingers off. Just take a gander at these 7 fab shots, then click on each one to see where in the world they can lead you.
At a Lunar Eclipse
By Thomas Hardy
Thy shadow, Earth, from Pole to Central Sea,
Now steals along upon the Moon's meek shine
In even monochrome and curving line
Of imperturbable serenity.
How shall I link such sun-cast symmetry
With the torn troubled form I know as thine,
That profile, placid as a brow divine,
With continents of moil and misery?
And can immense Mortality but throw
So small a shade, and Heaven's high human scheme
Be hemmed within the coasts yon arc implies?
Is such the stellar gauge of earthly show,
Nation at war with nation, brains that teem,
Heroes, and women fairer than the skies?
Anon,

Blog Guelph: The Art of Winter
Welcome to a sunny yet frosty, sky blue Wednesday in Guelph.
Please consider today's nine post series like a visit to Mother Nature's Gallery of Art. Note the careful crafting of the various winter materials - snow, frost, ice - and the skillful use of tools like gusting wind, low light and various shaped surfaces. Know that each image is in transition, never to look the same way twice and eventually designed to disappear completely.
Best viewed with a cup of gourmet coffee or tea. Biscotti optional.

Blog Guelph: Check Mate
Fabulous Friday mates.
It's sunny, half way through February and the eve of our first winter long weekend thanks to Family Day. A light at the end of the snow filled tunnel? Perhaps.
I'm breaking from tradition today with three pics - definite gems - all with a certain snow vibe. Might just as well show the stuff off as complain about it I figure. I say this now of course. My moods do swing in winter.
And - lovely Downtown Lynn is in a big flurry of activity for the next while so her Tuesday/Thursday presence may be hit and miss. I'll do my best to fill her talented boots and keep you amused with photo picks from the Guelph Flickr pool.
To enhance your viewing pleasure may I recommend you dive into a big thermos of spiked hot chocolate.

And now for some Breaking News.
"Guelph - The University of Guelph will launch its web-based "Zerofootprint" calculator Friday February 15, at 11 a.m. on the main floor of the Library. The cutting-edge tool will allow people to measure their ecological footprint and reduce their collective impact on the environment."

Blog Guelph: White Out Winter
Welcome to Winter Wonderland Wednesday.
Today's series of eight is a result of me nearing the end of my snow tolerance rope. Yes cabin fever is setting in folks and things might get a tad ugly.
To thwart such an outcome, I'm digging deep for anything that will help get me through the remaining days of 'the season that comes and stays'. Allow me to share some ideas that were inspired by our talented crew of Guelph Flickrites and the on-line world of Cyberville.
First off - there are a fine slew of smart, beautiful, interesting, funny and creative Guelph blogs listed in the Blog Roll in the right hand column. I regularly pop in on GrandFOGGER, and the very whimsical aislinn thomas, Guelph CEO Jim Estill, the Guelph Mercury gals that do city hall and the boys from the newsroom.
Every Thursday I read Gareth Lind's latest comic strip (his ad appears in the top left column) then cruise over to see what's shaking in Ward Two - a very prolific and informative effort by both elected ward reps.
With over 40 blogs that range from soup to nuts, me thinks/hopes you'll find a couple to suit your fancy.
And now, back to the weather.
Today's lead photo by Firda may inspire driving dread BUT to really grasp what it's like to share poor conditions with the 'not so wise' you really must check out funny man TJ O'Malley's post titled: Crazy winter driving video.
Best viewed with a bottle of booze. Your choice.

On the other hand, you may be curious about what the City of Guelph looked like last October or maybe Spring. Indeed you may be the type that would love to wade through our deep and refreshing archives. There are over 5,000 terrific Guelph photos, taken by a growing tribe of fantastic photographers, currently available for your viewing pleasure.
