Blog Guelph: art in guelph
It appears to be Art Week on Blog Guelph with today's post taking a look at the old/new notion of a Guelph Community Arts Centre.
An organization, indeed a space, for multidisciplinary arts has been a dream of many for a long long time in the town that is literally busting at the seams with talent.
Now I realize there is no sense lamenting this dead ol' dog but wouldn't the Old Post Office have been a superb location for such a dream? Sigh.
Nevermind, the subject has reared it's gorgeous head again with a meeting set to discuss every and all possibilities.
Read more about it here
Click on the next 5 pics to see just a handful of examples of found art in this great town.
I will be doing my promogurl thing about FOOD next week. In the meantime, click on the pretty green link directly to you right to get your tummy rumbling.....
till then,

Blog Guelph: Cow Love
Greeting Guelphites and Blog Guelph lovers - seems love is in the air and and the heifers at the University of Moo are puckering up. Please kiss a cow today.
Today's foto fivesome are grouped together randomly - in a slice of life kinda way. I've sprinkled some news throughout the posts too - along with a You Tube video - cause I'm in a sprinkling kinda mood.
Must be the pending full moon - and the light yet glorious overnight rain.
Happy day. And for friends and family of Canadian artist Ken Danby, a sad day indeed.

Blog Guelph: New Election Blogs
If you scroll down Blog Guelph you'll come to the Blog Guelph Blog Roll - and a new category right at the top.
Our Provincial Election Blog section currently hosts two blog links.
At the top of the two blog list, the Guelph Mercury has a very active blog up and running with a focus on Guelph's provincial race. And Ben Polley from the Green Party has a blog included on his site.
I couldn't find any other local candidate blogs - but if you do, please pass them on.
October 10 is election day in Ontario. Please get informed.

Blog Guelph: Downtown Guelph Lit Up
Due to the overwhelming response and success of the last "lightbulb drive", Project Porchlight is returning to Guelph. With the help of many volunteers going door-to-door, 10,000 lightbulbs were distributed this past winter.
The shiny and enthusiastic new fall campaign was launched this past Sunday at the River Run Centre and, if you missed it like me, fear not. It's never too late to jump on the mighty Porchlight bandwagon to shed some light and education across town. Go on, Sign up here.
As always, check out our Flickrettes (ew! ette is SO diminutive) and Flickrhims shots below to see more of their photostream.
Have a hot hot day all,

We're slowly starting this first week of fall off - this time with 5 fotos that strike the art cord AND with some information about the next Guelph Arts Council "Arts Schmoozefest".
Should you be interested in networking with a bevy of folks from the Guelph Arts Community - then head to the Bookshelf Green Room at 41 Quebec Street on Tuesday, September 25, 5 - 7 pm.
In addition to this opportunity, why not visit the Guelph Arts Council at this easy to click link right now.

Blog Guelph: Summer Lovin'
I like to believe that I'm the quintessential Canadian. Born in Winnipeg in the middle of winter, summer lovin' and traversing the slippery slope between fits of hysteria and/or nodding off during a leaders debate.
(Perhaps a cynic too? But, as a true Canadian, oh so polite.)
The Ontario version of this war of words takes place tonight minus representation from The Green Party. Hardly seems a well rounded debate but if you believe you might actually learn a thing or two, by all means...
I, however, will be far too busy with summer. The sunshiny season appears to still be with us in Guelphtown (minus the humidity - yay!), so I'm going to take my political exasperation outside for what may be the last vestiges of light. I'm off to follow the lead of our handful of photobugs today and leap into the warmth. Click on their pics to see what they see.
Have a great summer, see you in the Fall.

Blog Guelph: Building Guelph's Future
Do you ever wonder about the future of our fine city?
Do you ever worry?
If you've raised your hand for either question, I'm pleased to tell you that the City of Guelph is hosting an Open House at the River Run Centre, 35 Woolwich Street, 7 - 9 pm, on September 19th where they will be asking Guelph residents how Guelph should be built in 2031.
This is a free event that anyone can attend. So put on your thinking caps boys and girls - get your idea motors running.
Today's series of photograph's feature downtown Guelph today. Your job is to try and imagine each image in 25 years. What would you like to see?

Image a mural on the side wall of Acker's Furniture - maybe a peel back style that incorporates the window impressions.
Blog Guelph: Ackers at 80
Ackers Furniture has been selling appliances and household gear in Guelph since 1917 - a full 80 years by my calculations. Their official address is 42 Carden Street, but you can also enter the store from MacDonell Street.
I would conclude that any downtown Guelph business with this stretch of longevity has got some wisdom to share. Is anyone from city hall asking them to share?

Formerly this slice of downtown real estate pie was the patio for the much loved Meridian Cafe. And now - hmmmm what is that awful smell?

Blog Guelph: Don't Have A Cow
One of the beautiful things about technology that continues to amaze me is just how fragile it can be.
Take Blog Guelph for instance. Sure Downtown Lynn and I dutifully blog a plethora of digital images five days a week for your viewing pleasure. And gratefully, you in turn flock to our url to see said photos.
It all happens so smoothly that we begin to believe that just like the rising and setting of the sun, Blog Guelph will always be waiting for our pleasure.
And then - something happens with the - technology - and wham bam sorry man, click and refresh all you want - you ain't gonna get anywhere cause anywhere has been swallowed!
Used to be that I would 'have a cow' when cyber shit hit my fan. Now - well, I go outside and look for the sun.
Please enjoy today's series brought to you by a talented team of Guelph photographers. Click the pics.

Blog Guelph: Walking!
Many many lifetimes ago I was a crazy young runner and a beautiful lad named Terry Fox stole my heart. I had the great fortune to meet Terry at Nathan Philips Square when he blew through Toronto on his massive odyssey across Canada.
While this is hardly the "AlternaNews" we like to discuss here at Blog Guelph, it is important to note that this Sunday is the annual Terry Fox Run. People will run. walk, ride to raise funds for cancer research in honour of Terry's Marathon of Hope.
Like me, you may not be a joiner. You may choose to forgo one of the many public events, may not even raise any funds at all. But risking a preacherly tone, I'd like to plant this seed of an idea in your minds: walk, run, ride, dance for that matter this Sunday BECAUSE YOU CAN. Help someone else who can't. Be grateful that you are here and are able to move on this earth.
Haven't got the proper footwear? Perhaps these 6 fab photogs will lend you a pair.....

Blog Guelph: City of Guelph Seeks New Slogan
The City of Guelph head honchos are retiring our rather dated and dull village logo and slogan and making way for a crisp new look and a trio of potential slogans that YOU can have your say about.
If you click on this link, you will be able to view and vote on two new logos and three new slogans - which I will offer up here just in case this encourages you further. You never know - one may just jump out and bite yah!
City of Guelph - Vibrant
City of Guelph - Experience Creativity
City of Guelph - Makes a Difference
As a way of warming you up to the task, I proudly present today's series of sign, logo and slogan photos from around our fair and fun filled town.
Photographer Cool-Baby provided the 'sign of vegatable' photo for today. Click on any photo on Blog Guelph to see more images by the image maker.
