Blog Guelph: Covered Bridge Face

DSC_0110.JPG, originally uploaded by edeva_art.

Guelph's Lattice Covered Footbridge was built in June 1992 near the junction of the Speed and Eramosa Rivers by 400 timberframers who were gathered in Guelph from all across North America.

Let me repeat that. Four hundred people came to Guelph to volunteer their time and build us a bridge because it's what they like to do.

Based on an original design from the 1800s, it is one of only two in all of Ontario.

Thrift store gems (or utter crap) like this are very common finds at anyone of the plethora of 'gently used' retailers in the city. At the very least these retailers help reduce the amount of trash heading to the landfill. An even better long term environmental choice would be not to make stuff like this in the first place.

'52 Dodge 8060, originally uploaded by blairware.

I attended the very full Ward Three candidate debates last night at GCVI.

One of the new political faces vying for a seat seemed incapable of answering any of the questions posed. Instead, he dodged into his own familiar territory of planting daffodils along the Hanlon.

I believe community service is important. But community service does not always qualify someone for office.

I want a representative who is able to speak to the issues placed on the table. Not someone who's own agenda renders him or her deaf or dodgy.

Here's a sad statistic for you. Only 36 % of eligible Guelph voters went to the polls for our last municipal election.

In an effort to raise that turnout to 50% for the upcoming November 13th vote, the Guelph Civic League have built a very informative website that covers many of our cities issues.

For the one-stop shoppers among us, they now have a three year voting profile posted on each of the current members of council. So if your wondering 'how' your ward representative voted on items like planning, water, growth and pesticides, take a click in this direction.
